Again, Republican caller after caller to C-Span say
that they will vote straight Democratic this fall, or that they will support Dem candidates from now on, and one lady wondered about Clark/Warner running, another Republican asked Dick Polman of the Philadelphia Inquirer what he thought about John Edwards.

I have noticed this happening this weekend, Friday morning, last weekend. Doesn't matter where the callers are from - north, south, east, west, very few are taking up the republican banner. Usually I want to pull my hair out when I watch C-Span, but the last few weeks, it has made me smile. :)

The only disturbing aspect is the continued worship of John McCain. We all need to email everyone we know with that photo of John McCain hugging Bush while Bush waves out to the crowd. That is the most emasculating photo I have ever seen of any man. Big, Bad McCain, clinging onto his Big Daddy, George Dubai.

2. I've noticed the same thing
I liked the guy from NY who was a Republican but said that he will vote straight Dems this year. He said that the Republican party has been taking over by zealots. He told the Republicans to put down their Bibles and start governing this country the way it is supposed to be. He said he will vote for Hillary for Senator for the first time and will vote a straight Dem ticket for the first time in his life.

3. Maybe we can use McCain's kissing bush**s ass against him. If they
are going to vote dem because of the antics of the bush** admin, well then, show what a crooked SOB McCain is. Show his early Charles Keating years, show how he let his family be raked over the coals, and then show what a pandering SOB he is now. If they don't like the current status quo in their party, then they should be able to realize that they've got more of the same coming in McCain.

4. Don't forget he wants more "boots on the ground" in Iraq
How we going to do that, Johnny?? We would need a draft.

AND he is for overturning Roe v. Wade, so we would be guaranteed some more wingnut judges.

7. I've always thought that his support of this stupid war was a perfect
indication of just how frigging obtuse the man is. Where did he spend the Viet Nam war? In a Vietnamese prison camp. He spent (how long was it??) I think 5 years in a Vietnames cage or whatever. For a war that was a horrific waste of human life, was totally unwinnable, and unjustified. We only went into Viet Nam because Eisenhower thought we could show the French the proper way to rule the people of Viet Nam. Then we started to murder their leaders. Then everything went to hell.

Well, one would suppose that through all that anyone who spent time as a POW would be against another unjustified, unwinnable, immoral, war. Wouldn't one? This is a indication of what a dumb bastard McCain is.

He made a career out of being caught. He was shot down by the Viet Cong, caught, and imprisoned. Apparently some people thinks those were the perfect credentials for a republican politician. I think that the guy became unhinged during his days as a POW and we've been having to put up with his crazy, dishonest, worthless ass ever since.

5. Don't know if this is for real. I did see a good bumper sticker yesterday
"Enough is enough! Vote Democratic"

Don't know if it was over an old W sticker or not . . . I'm wary of these "public conversions" to Dem . . . overconfidence can kill you. The Repukes thought they had everything wrapped up in a bow in 1998 with the impeachment hearings, and the polls went the other way in November.

8. That bumpersticker came from the DNC -
My dad has it on his car & I gave mine to my sister. My dad's been a democrat his whole life - he has had a couple of people comment positively in parking lots...

19. Sorry, I wasn't clear - the "for real" comment
was about "the tide turning" and more Bush04 voters giving up on repukes in 06 . . .

I know the bumper sticker is real - I believe my own lying eyes . . . ;)

20. LOL - I think it was me who wasn't clear -
I mentioned the DNC & my dad (lifelong dem) as a way to point out that the bumper sticker probably wasn't on cars driven by rethugs who've "seen the light"...
just a minor disconnect between brain & keyboard! :-)

9. I'm afraid the voting machines will say otherwise. The Bush cabal will
go to jail if the Dems take over in '06 and they know it.

That is one of the most disgusting pictures ever. And there's Lord Bush in his favorite pose, too, blessing the masses. Yuck.

15. They *always* say this, but
when push comes to shove, they still vote Republican. I heard this from several people in 2004. They cursed Bush up & down, told people they were voting Kerry in a loud voice, and even told other people to vote Kerry... but, after the election, "well, I voted Bush. He was the lesser of two evils."

Rove & the media are so good at demonizing the opposition that people who now are thinking of voting Democrat, end up in the Republican camp because the Democrat has been turned into a communist and al-qaeda member who will lay down on national security issues.

16. I know
My own mother cursed Bush for months leading up to the election...then on election day (when I just *knew* she had voted democrat) she confessed that she had voted for Bush because she felt he was the 'lesser of two evils'.
My dad...who didn't speak to me for >6 months because of my support of J. Kerry and who told me I should "move to France where I belong" because I didn't support the Iraq war recently visited. He actually gave a substantial amount of money to the 'Swift Boat Veterans'. During that visit he said "Yah, going into Iraq was a big mistake". :eyes:

17. McCain soundly rejected by his own party in '08 straw vote
This may have been posted already, but in case anyone hasn't see it yet:

http://www.drudgereport.com/flash2mc.htm

Yeah, it's from the Drudge site but occasionally he puts up something that's worth looking at.

Nothing like a former "maverick" selling out what scant "integrity" still remains, by grovelling to the very individuals that still see Bush as God's infallible monarch-in-chief. And even better yet, when these "true believers" don't buy it and send the impostor down to a single-digit defeat. It appears that McCain has eroded his potential for support on two fronts. The moderates are bailing because he's now revealed himself to be a boot-licking Bush apologist, and the far right cannot or will not forget his past as one who opposed Bush on one too many occasions. How does one define cooked goose?

18. Starting sometime in 2002
people kept on saying they'd voted for Bush in 2000 and were not going to vote him again. Poll after poll showed the same thing. Meanwhile, I never heard of a single person saying they'd supported Gore in 2000 and now would vote for Bush.

So of course Kerry won in a landslide.

Wait, no, he didn't.

What happened? Either millions of Republicans actually voted for Bush in the end, and/or those who controlled the voting machines controlled the vote count. Probably some of each.

My point is, do not for one minute get at all confident that we'll win back the House or the Senate this year, nor assume we'll win back the Presidency in two more years. Instead, do everything in your power to help make it happen. Become a precinct chair. Campaign for candidates. Give money. Run for office. Work as a volunteer poll worker or poll watcher on election day.

We need to take this country back from the ground up. It won't happen just because Bush's poll numbers are low. Remember, he was around, maybe slightly below 50% in '04, and look what happened.

That would be a good tool for the campaign.....
