A Gracious Correction Of The Jerusalem Post - by Jerry Falwell
http://www.theconservativevoice.com/articles/article.html?id=12741

Earlier today, reports began circulating across the globe that I have recently stated that Jews can go to heaven without being converted to Jesus Christ. This is categorically untrue.

These false reports originated from a March 1 Jerusalem Post front page column which said: “An evangelical pastor and an Orthodox rabbi, both from Texas, have apparently persuaded leading Baptist preacher Jerry Falwell that Jews can get to heaven without being converted to Christianity. Televangelist John Hagee and Rabbi Aryeh Scheinberg, whose Cornerstone Church and Rodfei Sholom congregations are based in San Antonio, told The Jerusalem Post that Falwell had adopted Hagee's innovative belief in what Christians refer to as ‘dual covenant’ theology. This creed, which runs counter to mainstream evangelism, maintains that the Jewish people have a special relationship to God through the revelation at Sinai and therefore do not need ‘to go through Christ or the Cross’ to get to heaven.”

While I am a strong supporter of the State of Israel and dearly love the Jewish people and believe them to be the chosen people of God, I continue to stand on the foundational biblical principle that all people — Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Jews, Muslims, etc. — must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ in order to enter heaven.

However, I simply cannot alter my deeply-held belief in the exclusivity of salvation through the Gospel of Christ for the sake of political or theological expediency.

2. Obviously he is not a true follower of Jesus
because he obviously doesn't understand his teachings.

3. We're The Chosen People Of God
Unfortunately that's not good enough. The big guy doesn't have much clout when it comes to getting us into heaven.

4. I'll ask again...What is controversial about this?
There have been at least three other threads on this same thing, so I'm repeating myself. But isn't this pretty much what all Christians think? Or Muslims for that matter? I'm an agnostic myself--and I hate Falwell as much as anyone--but it seems to me that the whole point of belonging to any specific Christian sect is that all others are hellbound heathens, and only your little group are going to meet the Big Guy's approval. Right? Otherwise what's the point of being a baptist or a snake-handler or whatever?

I killed the last thread on this by asking this question, but I'd like to hear an answer.

7. You tell me if this is what all Christians or Muslims for that mater think
I certainly don't think I am qualified to speak for all Christians or Muslims for that matter. There you go.

As for being controversial or not let the person who reads it be the judge. Falwell's words speak for themselves.

And by the way this is the first thread I have seen concerning this subject and didn't mean to post a dupe. Shit happens.

8. Christians of the more insightful persuasion think that
we can't be absolutely sure WHO is going to heaven, or even if there really is a PLACE called heaven.

There are NOTS of nondogmatic, nonjudgemental, nonfundamentalist, nondominionist Christians out there. They used to be the majority, but now I'm not so sure. It could be that a very noisy, obnoxious, psycho-fascist minority has got people like you fooled into thinking they are the MAJORITY..............

11. I'm not just talking about fundies
What I'm saying is that I think it's a common Christian belief that non-believers don't get into heaven. I'm pretty sure it says something like that in the bible. A lot of Christians think you can't get in without certain rituals, e.g. baptism or eucharist. Jews wouldn't get in under these definitions.

What kind of Christian doesn't believe in heaven?

whether or not only Christians can go there.

Liberal Christian groups don't know for sure, and DON'T OBSESS ABOUT IT, lol. They tend to focus more on imitating Christ's actions and not on "salvation".

9. Falwell is simply wrong.
He need to reread the Book of Romans. God's covenant with Israel is inviolate.

It was established on Mount Moriah with the offering of Isaac. There is certainly some mystery on the eschatological front as to w=how things transpire but it ultimately does not matter.

14. Heavens are like fingerprints, everyone gets their own.
This is ancient Chinese secret like moo-shu pork and Poo-poo platter. It's the only way for 6 bil Chinese to get into heaven with bathing in the blood of the Jeebus lamb who rarely if ever visits China.

15. It is astounding to me that there are arguments about who can and who
cannot "go to heaven" in this day and time.

Why not argue about who gets visited by Santa?
