6. I love a good EOTW (End of the World) tale

I've read "The Stand", "Cell", "Lucifer's Hammer", "The Alien Years", and "The Long Emergency", among others. Until I read "The Long Emergency" I had assumed that the EOTW was going to occur subsequent to my demise.

I've also read and re-read "1984". I read it for the first time when 1984 was still years in the future. I applied the lessons learned from "1984" to what I saw happening in the Soviet Union.

I read "The Handmaid's Tale" many years ago. I couldn't see any Western society devolving in such a fashion.

Then Bush was elected....

Now it seems that we have everything in place but Klaatu landing on the Washington Mall.

The future is here and it sucks.
