Baghdad Burning-- sad yet hilarious post about the corrupt Iraqi mess
I love reading Riverbend. For those of you who don't know, she's an Iraqi woman apparently in Baghdad somewhere, educated in Britain or the US, and a professional with a bitter and cynical view of the fools running Iraq-- both the Americans and other Coalition members, and the corrupt Iraqi officials themselves. She runs her own blog at the "Baghdad Burning" site, one of the most honest, insightful and brilliant on the Web. Her latest post especially is classic-- a sarcastic Academy Awards show with the major figures associated with Iraq getting mock awards in proportion to their screw-ups. One of the best I've seen on the topic.

1. The entry "The Raid" is quite chilling.

2. Yes, I read that one.
I had gone to Riverbend's site so that I could post about the current state of electricity in Iraq. Someone had said that the U.S. repaired it. (Yes, he was a Republican.)

4. I have watched the war go from an inconvenience
to a threat. There was hope for an end to hostilities. That hope is gone.

3. One of the nominees for best actor:
George W. Bush in “OIF: The War on Terror” The third sequel to the original “Operation Iraqi Freedom: Weapons of Mass Destruction” and “Operation Iraqi Freedom: Liberating Iraqis”. Bush’s nomination comes for his convincing portrayal as the world's first mentally challenged president.

5. Two syllable words
was a real side splitter.....too bad it's so true, it almost ceases to be funny.....speeches limited to 2 syllable words. I don't think even I could do that...but then, stupid is as stupid does, Ms. Hughes. What a legacy for you to leave for your family - - - speechwriter for the first mentally challenged president!:dunce:

6. Yeah, the two-syllable comment was classic
IMHO captures the zeitgeist better than even the more tuned-in pundits and comedians based stateside. Basically another indicator that we have a frat-boy loser running our country. Would be funny, except that he's driving us all to ruin because of his idiocy.

7. That was very funny.
Amazingly, Riverbend retains her sense of humor.
