'Sandra Day O'Connor, a Republican-appointed judge who retired last month after 24 years on the supreme court, has said the US is in danger of edging towards dictatorship if the party's rightwingers continue to attack the judiciary.

In a strongly worded speech at Georgetown University, reported by National Public Radio and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Ms O'Connor took aim at Republican leaders whose repeated denunciations of the courts for alleged liberal bias could, she said, be contributing to a climate of violence against judges.

she bailed knowing full well she would be replaced with someone that will facilitate the exact thing she warns us of. Thanks a lot Sandra, may you live many years to enjoy what you and the other members of SCOTUS have done to our country. At least Rehnquist died trying to make it to the next presidential term while you abandoned us to the regime that you were instrumental in installing in power and, by so doing, increased that power.

Putting aside Ms. O'Connor's singularly influential role in installing the Bush regime for a moment- it's still ridiculous. We've been 'edging toward dictatorship' for several years now. I guess it's just getting a little *too* fascist for her now, with assaults on her beloved judiciary.
