George Clooney for President in 2008

Someone made a point to me today, and I think it has merit, that the best candidate for president may not be the electable one. I happen to think Clark is a great Democratic candidate (southerner, Military General, outspoken, he appears on Fox News, etc). During the Democratic primaries, I didn't know enough about him to trust him on the base issues. I did not vote for him in those primaries, but I would if he ran again.

The person who made the point to me pointed out that a celebrety could increase voter turnout, especially when change or reform is desired. A good example of how celebrety affected elections was when Jesse Ventura was elected as Governor of Minnesota. Here we are in a situation where Democrats are for change and reform. However, we need an outsider to confirm that message. I think many of the front runners are considered insiders and would be a tough sell. Clooney is someone recognizable to the average person, has increadible charisma and is politically minded.

Perhaps a Clooney/Clark ticket would be a winning combination in 2008.

I am interested to hear other DUers thoughts on this. What do you think?

Was Arnold qualified to be governer of California? He won in a landslide because of his popularity.

It's the difference between the NFL and college football.

And didn't Arnold win with the help of computer machines? I'm not sure if that was the case or not.

But there is so much backstabbing in DC, so much hypocrisy, that I think at least one person on the ticket has to be a DC political veteran, especially with the neo-con machine we're up against. They'll stop at nothing to win.

And don't be surprised in Clooney has some embarrassing skeletons in the closet that he would prefer remain in the closet.

Clooney is a better actor, a better director, and better at thinking on his feet, if the Oscars is any guide. I can't argue with his politics, either.

But I just love it when people start throwing out people's names for President here at DU just for saying the obvious. It makes me laugh.

that is essentially about popularity or celebrety of the candidate. I believe it's an important facet of being a successful candidate.

Oh, I love Clooney, he's a perfect combination of beauty, brains, and political acumen. However, I don't want anybody in that office who doesn't have very real experience in government, preferably as the executive of a state.

You see, the best man in the world who jumps into a job he has no experience in will need a lot of close advisors, and we all know who tends to offer him his advisors. Such advisors look great on paper--multiple degrees, loads of experience--but they're beholden to the men who offered them the job, not to the executive who is out of his depth or to the country he has been elected to lead.

In other words, I think we've had enough front men from the GOP. We don't need to compound the felonies by offering one of our own.

If Clooney wants to forsake his film career and unseat Governonr Musclehead, and if actually manages to run things without a platoon of advisors offered by corporations through the goodness of their hearts, I will entertain the thought of having a president who is that easy on the eyes. However, it takes more than a good looking hunk who talks a good fight to run a country.

Give me a toad with a heart of gold and a ton of practical experience.

Who was Supreme Allied Commander of NATO? Clark has the creds you mention... Clooney has the popularity...
