What Russ Feingold Has Done:
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 07:35 PM by stepnw1f
He has essentially put every Senators job on notice. If Senators chose not to support this censure, then they are not willing to uphold the law of the land.Time to wake up kids. You either do your job or you don't during an election year!

Fun... pass the popcorn!

WASHINGTON - Democrats distanced themselves Monday from Wisconsin Sen. Russell Feingold's effort to censure President Bush over domestic spying, preventing a floor vote that could alienate swing voters.

A day of tough, election-year talk between Feingold and Vice President Dick Cheney ended with Senate leaders sending the matter to the Judiciary Committee.

"I look forward to a full hearing, debate and vote in committee on this important matter," Feingold said in a statement late Monday. "If the Committee fails to consider the resolution expeditiously, I will ask that there be a vote in the full Senate."

Republicans dared Democrats to vote for the proposal.

"Some Democrats in Congress have decided the president is the enemy," Vice President Dick Cheney told a Republican audience in Feingold's home state.

Feingold, a potential presidential candidate, said on the Senate floor, "The president has violated the law and Congress must respond."

"A formal censure by Congress is an appropriate and responsible first step to assure the public that when the president thinks he can violate the law without consequences, Congress has the will to hold him accountable," Feingold said.

Even as he spoke, Democratic leaders held off the immediate vote that Majority Leader Bill Frist requested. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he didn't know if there ever would be one.

And, if there is a change of power this year, those who fail to stand up for American's rights and liberties, who are ignoring/excusing/dismissing this regimes' crimes against the Constitution and our laws, ARE GONNA GET THEIR POLITICAL CAREERS BURNED, BIG TIME!!!

everyone on tv today would be going on like the Republicans did with Bill Clinton, repeating "rule of law", "rule of law" over and over and over again. They aren't, they aren't even mentioning it on tv.

Censure and impeachment is going to backfire big time in the 2006 Senate elections.

Russ Feingold has put every Senator on notice and it is not a good thing. As reported in this article.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060313/ap_on_go_co/feingold_censure

Feingold should have waited until the final NSA domestic surveillance program was visited by Congress.

He and the rest of congress will find many slimy and dark things appearing from under rocks that don't need to see the light of day, both rethug and Democratic.

Russ Feingold will look very un presidential and he just gave the rethug a great TV commercial for 2006.

Why do you think Reid and Pelosi and just about every major Dem player is backing away from Russ.

Congress will BURY what they find. Mark my words.

18. That's the problems at it's core.
The population of 49 states don't care what Feingold thinks about bush, except for the most hard core ideologues and political junkies.

Without the support of the rest of the democratic senators, he will be standing alone.

IMHO, bad political move. Too soon, too political, too little support.

But as you say. Time will tell.

20. BUT, a strong majority disapproves of Bush, his policies,...
,...and his bullshit lies.

If there was EVER a time to take a strong, unrelenting stand against this man and his regime, IT IS NOW!!!

Just MHO, too.

The people need sturrrrong vivacious leadership in these times of uncertainty and hardship. WE HAVE THE POWER TO FULFILL THAT NEED.

Any idea where we might find someone like that? Our current leadership, Reid and Pelosi are more like Mr. and Mrs. Milquetoast.

21. let's see--if we whine that russ is rushing things, then we can overlook
the fact that this needs to be done. is there a timetable for 'doing the right thing"? for holding that pretender in the white house to the "rule of law"?

and just who decides the time? somebody on the reich? who?

25. My point in waiting is the NSA congressional probe needs to finish.
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 08:33 PM by Poppyseedman
He is basing his censure largely on bush breaking the law on the NSA domestic spying scandal.

I'm telling you it will be buried. Deep and hide away for a long time.

There is plenty there to bring anyone down, including bush. That's the problem, NSA spying is just the tip of the iceber, there is so much stuff going on that the American people don't know about and a lots of congressman do, including democratic leadership past and present.

Russ is hanging himself out to dry. Why do you think Reid and Pelosi are not even remotely supporting him?

There know the rethug leadership is keeping their powder dry just in case.

14. This is like a
grenade now with the pin pulled. It's got to have a resolution either by vote in the Senate or one of the committees. It looks like it's headed for the Judiciary committee which is just fine with me.

Specter just wants to get a clarification as to whether the FISA court would rule that it is not a presidents inherent authority to bypass the FISA court and he will be on board with the censure.

It is going to keep this issue alive when the pukes are shoveling dirt on it as fast as they can. It is also not any longer parallel interests with Conyers in the House. Russ has now intersected and merged the two bodies together in the common press for further investigation.

Gotta love that young Wisconsin boy !!

19. It will be on record, and maybe used in future trials as evidence.
Dems better think carefully about just brushing aside Mr. Feingold. Bush should be brought under control because he is out of his mind. Now it is wait and see.
