American Diabetes Assn-I just got a call requesting that
I do some neighborhood fundraising as I've done so in the past.
My question is, could they be outsourcing jobs? I'm pretty positive
the caller was of Phillipina descent, and the call sounded like it was
long-distance.

1. Why not?
They outsourced our utility meter readers here.

2. A lot of our phone bank volunteers in the SF Bay Area
are Asian, South Asian, and Latino and mainly US Citizens - calling from call centers in San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco.

The word on the street:

    1. Volunteer work is a good place to "network" for jobs.

    2. Volunteer work is a good place to "network" to meet people (better then the Bar Scene).

I was one of the Co-Ordinators for last October's ADA Marathon - Fun Run -- lot of really great young people on our volunteer staff. (And the Co-Chair is a DUer). Really restored my faith that we will survive Bush and Boobengrabber and put our country back together again.
;-)

3. Sounds good, Coastie. I don't even
know if it would have been bad had the jobs been outsourced, other than losing jobs here. But I have had my Earthlink experiences where everyone I speak to is in India. I don't begrudge anyone jobs, but...
And FWIW, I was thinking that the ADA would hire people, not depend on volunteers. Live and learn, and thanks!
