US Plans Massive Data Sweep (ADVISE system)
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 11:00 PM by Triana
I JUST got this link in a tech newsletter I subscribe to, but the article is part of CSM's Feb 9th edition. I submit it for DUers, nonetheless, as it is SHOCKING what data the NSA/DHS/Nazi bu$hit regime is vacuuming up on us and how. I searched and didn't see this posted yet so sorry if it's a duplicate. Do SIT DOWN before you read this. It'll make ya hurl your dinner You've been warned...:

US plans massive data sweep

Little-known data-collection system could troll news, blogs, even e-mails. Will it go too far?
By Mark Clayton | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

The US government is developing a massive computer system that can collect huge amounts of data and, by linking far-flung information from blogs and e-mail to government records and intelligence reports, search for patterns of terrorist activity.

The system - parts of which are operational, parts of which are still under development - is already credited with helping to foil some plots. It is the federal government's latest attempt to use broad data-collection and powerful analysis in the fight against terrorism. But by delving deeply into the digital minutiae of American life, the program is also raising concerns that the government is intruding too deeply into citizens' privacy.

"We don't realize that, as we live our lives and make little choices, like buying groceries, buying on Amazon, Googling, we're leaving traces everywhere," says Lee Tien, a staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. "We have an attitude that no one will connect all those dots. But these programs are about connecting those dots - analyzing and aggregating them - in a way that we haven't thought about. It's one of the underlying fundamental issues we have yet to come to grips with."

The core of this effort is a little-known system called Analysis, Dissemination, Visualization, Insight, and Semantic Enhancement (ADVISE). Only a few public documents mention it. ADVISE is a research and development program within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), part of its three-year-old "Threat and Vulnerability, Testing and Assessment" portfolio. The TVTA received nearly $50 million in federal funding this year.

5. 1960s spy shows had a thing called 'code'.
You'd send it out via public means.

The trouble is, I can see where some of this is warranted.

OTOH, there is a possibly legit privacy issue as well.

My verdict, FWIW, is withheld.

23. A second plane has hit the towers. America is under attack!
Yeah, he sure looks surprised, doesn't he? Or upset about the people jumping to their deaths? Of course, no one can read minds, but I think he's scared, first and foremost, but he's thinking "this is it. It's happening". He knew it was coming, but like all things when something actually happens, its' enormity suddenly dawns on you, thusly.

10. Anyone who organized a MoveOn Action was on the 'list'...
I had various cars with white men sitting in them in front of my residence for about a 3-week period. And as I look back with the info we have now...the FBI said they were given 'worthless leads.' I am sure I was one of them. I am not a terrorist. I want W impeached.

Bet I am being data-mined now.

Go Russ! Feingold made me proud today!

11. Their list is so long, they are overwhelmed with "enemies".
Hell, any person involved in any group which opposes the policies of this government is on their list. That's one LOOONNNGGGG list because there are, literally, millions upon millions of us.

So, they are wasting their damned time, chasing their tails and engaging in total bullshit control-freak crap they can never every control beyond the media blitzing and blather and propaganda already fully utilized.

WE ARE BIGGER THAN THEY ARE,...and, they just have to get over that. Our roots are in democratic means and forms and ways. If they can't accept that, well, they all deserve to get their asses demolished in future days.

So, there. All those who have participated in violating me and any/every other American can just go to hell,...and I hope you suffer tremendous consequences for selling us all out. Ya' bastards!!!

14. Call 911 .. tell them your being stalked..suspicious vehicles..
tell them it maight be terrorist activity...your doing your good civilian duty in reporting such a possibility..sound terrified..Ask them to check it out..you never know who's lurking in the neighborhood..tell them you're worried for the little kids in the neighborhood and elderly..maybe its a drug deal goin' down..start crying..then call the local media..make some noise about the suspicious vehicles watching your neighbors house..you're afraid for the innocent & vulnerable people in your neighborhood..you're afraid to leave your house..this isn't normal stuff where you live....

Make some noise & out the nazi stalkers.

18. Time to start using PGP (Pretty Good Privacy)
http://www.pgp.com/

Personal note: It's my belief that the older the version you get, the better it is- I suspect the newer versions may have backdoors built in.

19. From what I'm told
(can't remember who but someone said this) they can crack encryption without too much trouble. Else, how would they decipher what Osama et al send? Those guys are wiley enough to use encryption - and the gov't has to be able to crack it. I'm pretty sure they can but I don't have further info on this. Anyone else?

21. My understanding was
the ORIGINAL version of PGP was too secure for the NSA computers to crack, so they forced the developer to weaken the encryption before it could be sold in the US.

I may be completely wrong on that score.

26. You're precisely correct
The old version had up to 2048 bit keys. All subsequent versions have just 1024 bit.

24. Ooo, CARNIVORE and ECHELON on steroids!
Because we all know how evil those bloggers all are:eyes:

This isn't for sweeping for terrorists, this is just more of the same old spying BS. Find out what people do on the 'net, and then use it against them later.

Meanwhile the real crooks squat in Washington, selling all of us down the river.
