Winter warmest ever on record in Canada
"We saw it coming from mid-January on that we were seeing something quite remarkable," Whitewood said.

Between December and February, the country was 3.9 degrees above normal - the warmest winter season since temperatures were first recorded in 1948. Environment Canada climatologist Bob Whitewood said it smashed the previous record set in 1987 by 0.9 degrees.

It's happening a lot quicker then we thought.

1. Only 3.9?
From what I read, it sure seemed like more. But I know that in climate terms that is a lot.

7. In climate terms it is hundreds of times greater then normal.
Usual variations are tenths of a degree.

2. I live in northern VT not far from the Canadian border
and I've never seen a winter this mild. Usually there are many nights of temps that fall below -20 and days where the temp never rises above 0. This year we haven't seen a single night or day like that.

4. Ditto here in Iowa - should be a surplus of natural gas next year
Ha ha. Of course there will be another "shortage" next year.
Seldom ever snows here anymore. We had some about 10 days before Christmas, then it was gone by Christmas. Little since and it has melted fast. Our outdoor cat started shedding in January. I fear summer will be brutally hot just as last year was.

5. Good News , Bad News...
The good news is that many low income families saved money on their gas bill...the Bad news is global warming has its consequences, and if it continues at this rate, it will eventually effect our future food supply and will not match future population growth.

6. It's finally been snowing - a bit
But the way things are going, it'll all be melted by the weekend - at least a month early.
