Witness: Dog Handler Laughed About Inmates
By DAVID DISHNEAU

FORT MEADE, Md. Mar 14, 2006 (AP)— An Army dog handler charged with using his animal to terrify Abu Ghraib prisoners laughingly claimed he was competing with a comrade to frighten detainees into soiling themselves, according to testimony Tuesday at his court-martial.

The testimony on the second day of the trial was the most damaging evidence yet against Sgt. Michael J. Smith.

The witness, Sgt. John H. Ketzer, was an interrogator at the prison in Iraq in 2003 and 2004.

He testified that one night, he followed the sounds of screaming to a cell where Smith's black Belgian shepherd was straining against its leash and barking at two cowering, teenage boys.

This is just the saddest thing...

It isn't Russ Feingold trying to hold Bush accountable for his crimes against America that creates more terrorists, it's Bush and Rumbo's Torture and Murder!

2. Where do they find these sadists?
Do they have to scour the country, give special tests, or what? Or is this just army conditioning that demonizes the "enemy"?

And, more to the point, could he do it to Americans if so ordered??

9. They don't find them, they create them
Otherwise-normal-seeming people will do horrible things if they're under certain kinds of social pressure for long enough. See http://www.prisonexp.org/ for an example of what pre-screened psychologically healthy people will do--even when they *know* it's just an experiment.

And of course he could do it to Americans! There is nothing special about Americans that provides immunity from victimization. Just sharing a cultural and linguistic identity with people in a position of absolute power will not make them any less likely to abuse you.

5. It does speak volumes about our military that
these dirt bags are on trial.

"He could get up to 24 1/2 years in prison if convicted on all 13 counts."

Let's see what they really get.
