Representative John Conyers (D-MI), one of the true patriots of our time, is looking for "citizen cosponsors" for House Resolution 635.
House Resolution 635 would create a special committee to investigate whether George W. Bush's crimes rise to the level of impeachment. This, in effect, is the very first step in initiating an impeachment inquiry agasint Bush.
I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel absolutely helpless.
I hardly recognize my country anymore. I see an Administration out of countrol. One that has no respect for the rule of law. I see a 'President' (rolls eyes here) who believes he is a country unto himself, and doesn't believe in the principle that in this country, we have three separate but co-equal branches of government. And the legislative branch of that government has oversight responsibility with respect to the executive branch.
In January of last year, on the heels of his second coronation, George Bush told the Washington Post that his moment of accountability (if there ever had been one) had passed. He said "Well, we had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 election."
In other words, Bush doesn't believe he's accountable to you or me.
Well, here's a surprise for Bush: the President of the United States, whether he knows it or not, is accountable to the American people 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
And one of the ways you can make sure he is held accountable, is by signing on as a citizen co-sponor for House Resolution 635.
Do it for patriot John Conyers. But most of all, do it for yourself, and for the future citizens of this country.
