Censuring the president-by kos
Censuring the president
by kos
Wed Mar 15, 2006 at 07:46:06 AM PDT
The following Democratic senators have come out for censuring the president:

Daniel Akaka
Max Baucus
Byron Dorgan
Dick Durbin
Dianne Feinstein
Daniel Inouye
Jim Jeffords
Ted Kennedy
John Kerry
Herb Kohl
Mary Landrieu
Carl Levin
Joe Lieberman
Blanche Lincoln
Barbara Mikulski
Patty Murray
Jack Reed
Harry Reid
Jay Rockefeller
Chuck Schumer
Ron Wyden

Unfortunately, the president being censured was Bill Clinton, not George W. Bush. Because, you know, these senators had their priorities straight.

27. Absolutely Not True - Both Can and Should be Done.
Censuring the president now, can at least put into effect a Cease and Desist of his Domestic Spying programs - and put him notice that both Senate and House Investigations will definetly follow which could into currently known and still secret Domestic Spying programs, and it could (and should)eventually lead to articles of impeachment .

Censuring does not preclude Impeachment.

31. Oh, in the clinton era? Sigh, someone should explain that to the repubs .
sigh. that's the way Randi is framing it these days. "It's a slap on the wrist! Just say he did something wrong!"

Sigh.

And kos is implying that these people do not support censure for Bush. so he did not check, obviously. Liberal Oasis did. That was my point.

11. Most of those votes were an attempt to avoid impeachment
It makes a dramatic point, but I don't hold that against them.

Kerry has to, unless he wants to fight Russ for "most liberal Senator running for Pres."

and not only for political reasons, if you look at his background. I am sure my senior senator will too, as will Durbin.

I cant say for the rest (even if I have my doubt for Lieberman).

19. Kerry is a true liberal
and I appreciate that with all my heart. As a Nader voter in 96 and y2k, I came back to the party in 2004 and voted for Kerry (although I did cast my vote on the WFP working family party line).

Now I am a yellowdog. Any (working family party endorsed) Dem will get my vote for pres in 2008.

32. even if we win, we won't ChImpeach
it will be a democratic victory in 2006, not an activist victory. IMHO, 2006 is no where near a given. We need to stand up and deliver in 2006. This is our time. The time is now.

34. Oh so a Dem victory in 2k6 isn't an activist victory so we have split
into 2 parties. The Democratic Party and the Activist Party.

Then we need an ActivistUndergound. site.

The time is not now.

Now is is 2k6 mid-term elections.

35. A dem victory will lead to lots of moderation, will slow w.'s war effort.
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 01:03 PM by mdmc
I think that the best way to win in 2006 is to censure w. We have to set up the groundwork. The bottom line is impeachment gets rid of the people's choice for pres. No dlc dem will do this as they are implicated in w.'s "lies".

Just look at what Wes Clark is saying on this subject.

33. I really think that this is about leadership.
Right now, we need dems to lead the opposition. Look at the bankruptcy vote - I doubt any of those dems will ever vote to censure or chimpeach, regardless of what happens in 2006.
