Trippi: Playing with Dynamite to write off us NETROOTS
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 11:44 AM by Laura PackYourBags
One Democratic political organizer, Joseph Trippi, told The New York Sun that Mr. Feingold's call will require some response from other contenders for the 2008 nomination.

"Regardless of the public opposition and of how many people roll their eyes, this is pretty serious stuff," Mr. Trippi said. "I think it's going to have an effect on the rest of the field."

Mr. Trippi said he thought Mr. Feingold's motivations were sincere and consistent with his long track record in favor of civil liberties. The senator is already popular among online activists, sometimes called the "netroots," and will gain ground with his latest move, the analyst said.

Mr. Trippi warned that any potential candidate who dismisses the censure idea risks being flamed online. "Anybody who says this is going too far is somebody who's probably writing off that side of things," he said. "Anybody who writes off the netroots or says you don't have to pay attention is really playing with dynamite."

1. Interesting
One of my senators, Blanche Lincoln, has launched a trial balloon for the nomination. I talked with her aide today and he was noncommittal over what Lincoln would do. Her fellow Arkansan, Mark Pryor, also hasn't said anything publicly, but his aide said that he was seriously considering the matter and that he wanted to hear from constituants. Pryor is up for re-election, which may account for this; it's usually his aides who are non-commital and blah when I call.

is Hillary Clinton. After all, none of the other serious candidates (sorry, Biden and Bayh) who haven't signed on to this are in the senate. They don't have to worry about voting for it. They are free to support it, or claim they supported it later.

3. I don't disagree with Joe THIS TIME, but
I think he was a big part of the reason we don't have a President Dean TODAY!

I agree, it is very foolish of any candidate to ignore the "netroots", so on this point he's right...for a change.

4. Well, said Trippi
If Democrats somehow think it's not worth getting together and uniting behind Feingold because the resolution will lose, they might at well just go ahead and slash the wrists of their political careers.

It doesn't matter that/if it fails!!! Feingold has given them a GIFT and I just don't understand why they're not rushing to accept it! :nuke:

6. I've been saying the same thing.
This is Feingold's play for Dean donors/voters. And the rest of the field is playing right into his hands.

7. at least you're honest in acknowledging Feingold did this to push
his own career.

8. Wow, you really believe that? I don't. If you listen you can
hear it comes from his heart and a deep understanding of right and wrong.

10. It's undoubtedly true.
Otherwise, he would have told the rest of the Dem Senate caucus before he did it.

He wants us on his side, not the rest of the field of '08 hopefuls.

And good for him. A shrewd move. Why let those clowns share the credit?

9. It seems obvious to me that Censure is a move in Feingold's self-interest.
Feingold is also doing it because it's the right thing to do, though.

He's one of us, and he's not going to let the pack of DLC Dems lilly-liver their way around this issue.

Not only that, but he's putting those Dems on notice that no one (especially not Hillary, Bayh, and Biden) is going to get a free ride with progressives in '08.
