I think DU needs a "Worst" page.
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 01:06 PM by tasteblind
It would operate exactly like the Greatest Page, with a few minor differences.

The worst page and threads on the Worst page would only be accessible by registered users.

That way, when people put up lame, divisive, potentially embarrassing or just all around obnoxious threads, DU can make up its own collective mind about them.

At 25 votes (or more), a thread could be cast into the registered user-only Worst page.

That way, when an OP disses the entire American electorate in their subject line or makes an extremely misleading accusation, DU'ers can make up their own minds.

This could help out the Mods and give the right wing DU-haters (edit: on the outside) a little less fodder to work with while still allowing us to express ourselves freely.

Thoughts?

1. there might be a few people who rate it as worst
just on a whim. We all have that mean streak somewhere in us.

5. True, but many do that with the Greatest page too.
I know I have K&R'd several times based on a whim.

2. Yes and someone needs to start an Activist Underground site.
Apparently the party is split between Democrats and Activists and well this is DU.

4. I know you don't intend this, but
it could end up being like Junior High School. I don't like the idea, this is what the mods are for and they are DU'ers themselves.

6. A long time ago
In 2000, we had the Counter Productive Infighting Forum for the Green vs. Democrat wars. It's about time to bring that forum back.

10. Seems like the sort of thing that could be abused...
...seems kind of negative, too--why draw so much attention to what's worst in a group?

12. It's to draw attention away from it.
By taking it out of the public domain.

If its something you disagree with, then discuss it. This is a DISCUSSION board. I would rather have different views on things instead of 50 posts of the same thing.

23. Like I said, this wouldn't delete or lock anything.
Just make it so the rest of the world can't see us fight.

I wonder how many links to some of the more ugly posts we get here get posted at FR. This would put an end to that.

19. I've nominated this for the "Worst" page

it's divisive, and reeketh a bit of mobbishness . . .

plus we all probably have 25 haters who would do nothing but recommend us every time we posted, regardless.

Anyway, any day there are whole Tolstoy novels of conversation going on via PM and offline email behind the scenes - that's the really good stuff and you can say whatever you want without getting deleted no matter how absurd or "colorful".

20. I hereby nominate this thread to be the maiden thread for "Worst" Page
Seriously, if this were to happen, every other thread would be voted to "Worst" page, depending on who disagrees with who or because so-and-so doesn't like so-and-so. It would be a joke not appreciated by the mods, let alone the admins.

I don't think so. I think DU'ers know the difference between "I disagree with this thread" and "I wish no one at Free Republic or Fox News could see this thread."
