Federal Prosecutor Says 'No Point' in Continuing Moussaoui Trial
Prosecution's Case Gutted After Judge Bars Federal Aviation Witnesses

A federal prosecutor in the death penalty trial of Zacarias Moussaoui told the judge in the case that he saw "no point" in going ahead with the proceedings under a ruling that barred key government witnesses from testifying.

Assistant U.S. attorney Robert A. Spencer, one of the prosecutors trying to persuade a jury that Moussaoui deserves the death penalty for his role in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, made the comment in a conference call yesterday among U.S. District Judge Leonie M. Brinkema and lawyers for the prosecution and defense after Brinkema prohibited testimony and evidence from half a dozen federal aviation witnesses. Brinkema issued the ruling after a day-long hearing convinced her that misconduct by a federal lawyer had so tainted the proceeding that all evidence concerning aviation security must be stricken.

The decision gutted the case that prosecutors were building in their attempt to have Moussaoui executed for the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Moussaoui, 37, a French citizen of Moroccan descent, pleaded guilty last April to six conspiracy counts related to the Sept. 11 attacks. If the death penalty trial does not go forward or if the jury ultimately decides in favor of the defense, Moussaoui would be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

It almost looks like this whole trial was just window dressing for *'s tough talk. I don't think they wanted this trial to proceed to its end. I think they sabotaged it intentionally so that it would tank.

The families of the 9/11 casualties should be real insensed about this failure. They should make this come back and hit this administration square between its eyes.

It is another abject failure of *Co.

guilty and the only thing going to trial is the death penalty issue. Consequently, *co's record is REALLY bad.

So, there's no point in continuing because it wasn't about the defendant, it was about justifying the Administration position on 9-11.

It would sure be nice if the major media would pay as much attention to this story as to -- say, Hugh Rodham's business dealings, or Bill Clinton's "love child" (which made the front page of the NY Times).

But somehow I suspect that this story will not be given the attention the above two stories were given, nor do I expect the talking heads to go ballistic over it the same way they went crazy over Roger Clinton's antics or whether Clinton let somebody get buried at Arlington improperly -- or any of a hundred stories that Matthews, Blitzer, Kurtz, Schmidt, Lisa Myers, etc. etc., breathlessly used to interupt regular programming to tell us about.

This is only about achieving justice for 9-11 victims. It has nothing to do with Clinton's cock, so nothing much will be made of it.
