RISE UP! RISE UP AMERICA!
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 02:06 PM by berni_mccoy
Get up on your feet. About 65% of you DO NOT APPROVE OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION. And why should you? The Bush Administration has SEVERELY DAMAGED AMERICA and what it means to be an American.

The Bush Administration is taking away your Constitutional Rights! In exchange for what exactly I ask you? For safety and security? Do you really feel safer after seeing first-hand the incompetency that led to 9/11, the 2500+ dead soldiers in Iraq (a country in the midst of civil war) for non-existent WMDs, and to the 1,422 who died and over 2000 unaccounted for in the Gulf Coast because food, water and essentials were not delivered in time and because the National Guard was tied up in Iraq? Do you really feel safe after finding out that the Bush Administration was trying to secretly broker a deal with the UAE to control 21 of our seaports? What has happened to America? What has happened to "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" or "Land of the Free and Home of the Brave"? In giving up your liberties to the Bush Administration, you have received nothing but fear and death.

You are losing your first amendment right to free speech. You can no longer freely speak up in protest in America. You can only exercise your right to express yourself where the president and his audience can not hear you. And if you do exercise your right to speak out, you may be considered a terrorist. The FBI will investigate you and the NSA will listen in on your phone conversations. And this has been happening since BEFORE 9/11.

You are losing your fourth amendment right to be secure against unreasonable search and seizure. The Bush Administration has been authorizing warrentless wire taps on you since before 9/11 and has been taking U.S. citizens captive without charge or access to attorney, and sending them to terrible places where they will be tortured or killed.

And now, with the new Patriot Act, it will be a crime to declare that the president has broken a law, even if he has. This is a further erosion of the first amendment and the rights to free speech and to petition the government.

We have been successful in the past at thwarting terrorist attacks without eroding our civil liberties. By yielding our freedoms, we are giving the terrorists exactly what they want: the destruction of what America stands for. Why would the Bush Administration want Americans to yield to the desire of terrorists?

Greed is the root of all evil, and it is simple to connect every action of the Bush Administration to this fundamental motive.

Without the Iraq war, the oil companies would never have seen world record profits. The increase in the price of oil, mainly due to speculative fear of the disruptions in global supply caused by the Iraq war, have caused domestic oil companies to see quarterly profits that no other industry has seen in the history of the world. Yet the Republican Congress wants to give the oil companies BILLIONS more of your hard-earned tax dollars. If we go to war with Iran, the price of oil will more than double, yielding TENS OF BILLIONS OF MORE PROFIT to the each domestic oil company.

Without the Iraq war, the defense contractors, like Halliburton and Blackwater, would never have seen the record profits they have been taking in. And even so, why can't our soldiers be equipped properly? Why do they have to buy their own body armor? And why is it that "security details" contracted from Blackwater, who essential do the same thing our soldiers do, get paid HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS PER YEAR PER MERCENARY? Shouldn't the money be going to give our soldiers the best protection? But it isn't. Your tax dollars are going to the executives and board members instead of being used to protect our sons and daughters.

And despite cutting essential medical and aid programs, such as Medicare, Veterans Benefits, Medical Research (I'm particularly upset about the tens of millions of dollars that have been cut from Diabetes research in the last two years), Environmental protection, etc., we are still faced with a rapidly approaching TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT and over an 8 TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT. Maybe it's because of the HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars going to the Oil and Defense Contractors. Maybe it's because the Administration needs to spend $1.9 BILLION ON PUBLIC RELATIONS. After all, Bush has a lot of potentially angry Americans he needs to keep confused and/or complacent.

What is that you say? Congress is there to protect things like this from happening, isn't it? Theoretically, yes, I would agree with you. But in the late 80's early 90's, the Republicans formed K-Street, a political machine designed to give financial advantages to those Congressmen who listen to the concerns of lobbyists. The designs of that machine have come to fruition. Lobbyist like Jack Abramoff figured out how to use the system to buy the votes of your representatives and senators. And he worked with the Administration officials and Majority Leaders like Tom Delay to enforce that the Congressmen voted, not for their voter constituency, but for the corporations who funneled millions into the lobbyists. Greed is the root: Companies spend millions on lobbyists who get the Congress to return BILLIONS to corporations. There are some good and moral members of congress whose votes can not be bought. But they are in the minority and the ones who belong to the Republican party most likely have been spied on by the Bush administration so they are forced into voting. This is why moderate republican representatives who were FOR an investigation into the ILLEGAL WIRETAPPING were brought into a closed door meeting with the Bush Administration. After that meeting, they have agreed to NO INVESTIGATION. If their vote could not be bought, what information did the Bush Administration give them to change their mind? And why didn't they do so to ALL of Congress instead of those select few?

So, Congress is not really there to protect you. In fact, many Democratic Congressmen have said that CHANGE IS UP TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. They need to RISE UP and INSIST ON IT.

What are you going to DO ABOUT IT?

You should DO all of the following:
1. Write to your Senators and Representatives insisting that they hold the President accountable for his illegal activities. They will respond.
2. If your Congressmen respond that there is nothing to hold Bush accountable for, then you will volunteer for their Congressional opponents in this year's election.
3. Start writing a letter to the editor once a month on one of the following topics:
- The Bush Administration NEEDS to be held accountable
- We are losing freedom for FALSE Security
- The Republican Controlled Congress is Corrupt
4. Join a local protest
5. Speak to everyone you know about how Change IS NEEDED in our government.
6. Sign the petition to support Censure of the President: http://political.moveon.org/censure/

RISE UP AMERICA! IT'S UP TO YOU TO RESTORE AMERICA TO THE SYMBOL OF FREEDOM IT USED TO REPRESENT.

I agree with you, Bouncy Ball. And, I've already agreed for training with my local politicans in the coming local 2006 election.

The one thing I've not done is write letters to newspapers. Think its time I do.

7. Are the chances exactly zero
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 02:59 PM by genie_weenie
that we as Americans could get our elected officials to call a constitutional convention? Besides that method is their any way in which we could get rid of the current officials?

Or is all this moot as the Federal Government is so powerful now as to be able to put down any serious attempts at curtailing it's gargantuan status...

Bush is now at 33% approval. The same survey shows that Americans FAVORED DEMS in handling the Port Issue. And the Port Issue was squashed, so that's something BushCo wanted that he didn't get...

This is a strong indicator that perhpas we are not too late.
