How convenient: 27 Charged In Child Porn Sting
Call me cynical, but how convenient for the toad's administration to make a big sting involving child pornography:

27 charged in child porn sting
Web site containing live 'molestation on demand' shut down

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- An Internet chat room that streamed video of live child molestations has been shut down, and 27 people have been charged with online child pornography offenses, federal authorities said Wednesday.

snip

"We plan to prosecute them and others involved in this vile chat room to the fullest extent of the law," Attorney General Alberto Gonzales told reporters in Chicago, adding that the victims "are now in safe custody."

http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/03/15/childporn.arrests/index.html

Call me cynical, but this kind of thing could occur any day of the week and yet just when asshole's numbers are at their lowest, a "morals" story appears for the sheep.

11. Didn't Bush just have dinner with a porn star?
Hell no, I'm not trying to draw moral equivalency between child porn and 'regular' porn.

I'm just saying that steering the national conversation toward pornography invites discussion of Bush's choice of dinner companions. Perhaps the blogosphere can play a role in reminding people of this.

A few years ago Dems returned donations to the Playboy Company because the corporate media made such a big deal out of it for a over a week.

But nary a peep about Mary.

12. Anytime is a good time to break up a child porn ring in my book...
on a roller coaster, during dinner, or during sex with another consenting adult in a consequence free environment. Anytime's just great.

I doubt this has anything to do with Bush. If I'm wrong then please, go ahead and tell me how this child porn ring's continued prosperity is to the benefit of society.

40. I agree...
Why is there "outrage" over this. This is a good thing. 27 scumbuckets have been stopped from victimizing children. Not everything is political. I would hope that this would happen no matter who was in office, no matter what political circumstances abounded, and no matter the political climate of the times. They are the worst kind of criminals, and I'm thrilled that this ring of perversion has been busted.

21. I would hope not
...considering that the DOJ's demand for Google's search records has nothing to do with stopping CP. The DOJ wants those records in order to buttress their case for COPA.

COPA is the Child Online Protection Act. It's been ruled unconstitutional 3 times and has been thrown back by the SCOTUS twice. The law is designed to keep underage surfers from seeing adult porn. However, it's a badly written law and the last time the SCOTUS threw it back to the lower courts, they did so with the opinion that parents and filtering software would do a better job of protecting kids from seeing adult content than COPA would.

27. I think this is an issue that fits THEIR base
While everyone is concerned about child porn, when the administration starts pursuing porn, it's about separating themselves from the "left."

They're ramping up for the fall elections.

There will be some FCC fines for some radio or tv groups.

There will be more domestic sabre rattling to get the base stoked.

This is political theatre, and Rove is beginning his attack.

No one said anything about thinking that busting this slime is a bad thing. Surely you're not so naive as to believe the administration doesn't pick and choose its time of disclosures for things such as this.

Instead of addressing the imaginary straw man in your head, try addressing my comments as they are written, not as you pretend them to be.

These people are alleged to videotape themselves abusing minors on demand, including an infant, and sending it over the net. To say that these arrests were made because of Bush is insane.

Thank God there are some rational voices about this. I am SO disturbed that people think this is a political PLOY! We have some of the worst types of criminals who have aired the footage of them RAPING children, including BABIES, over the internet. And people are complaining about the timing of the story being leaked?

As I understand your post, after careful and deliberate reading, your cynicism is about the timing of the news released about this?

Because you damn sure sound completely and totally uninterested in the fact that children were being molested live, and thankfully the government shut them down and arrested 27 people in the sting. You sound damned uninterested in the plight of the children, or the horrific scourge on our country child pornography and child molestation is.

You sound damned callous.

Go to the link and scroll to the end. This ring was busted on March 6.

Today is March 15.

I don't know about y'all, but it appears to me that they saved the announcement of this arrest until they needed to knock some bad news about Unitary Executive George the First off the front page.
