Dear Senator Reid, For the first time in many years Democrats, Republicans, and independents are actually talking to each other and what we are talking about is the failure, on so many levels, of our leaders and our institutions in D.C.
We no longer argue about the war in Iraq on our main streets, or in our shops, bars, grocery stores, and churches. Instead, we express our mutual fears and concern about the direction of our country. We look at Washington as if it is a stranger we never expected to meet in our life time. We scratch our heads about the people who seem to want to be there but don't want to do their jobs.
We are hungry for someone, anyone, to step up and take our country back. We are starved for leadership. Not just Democrats, but Republicans as well, know that the ship of state is beaching itself. Look at the polls, even devoted Republicans now know that something is very wrong in Washington and all of us want the adults to step up and take charge.
Senator Feingold's resolution for censure may seem like a cheap stunt to those of you who walk the halls of our nation's institutions but out in the blue states and, more importantly, in the red states he looks like a real hero.
The Democrats in the Senate seem lost. You "over-think" everything. Leadership works best when it comes from the heart. Show us that you get it. Show us that you know we are out here. Show us that we matter.
Please start earning your salary or get out of the way. My taxes pay you but I am not getting good return on my money. Sincerely,
c: Russ Feingold
