Freepers are in big trouble!
Justice Ginsburg Reveals Details of Threat By GINA HOLLAND, Associated Press Writer
Wed Mar 15, 5:32 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor have been the targets of death threats from the "irrational fringe" of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court.

Ginsburg revealed in a speech in South Africa last month that she and O'Connor were threatened a year ago by someone who called on the Internet for the immediate "patriotic" killing of the justices.

Security concerns among judges have been growing.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter joked earlier this year that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned. Over the past few months O'Connor has complained that criticism, mainly by Republicans, has threatened judicial independence to deal with difficult issues like gay marriage.

8. There should be a law against that!
Seriously! I don't understand why there is not a law criminalizing threats against federal judges. If Ann Coulter had suggested that someone should poison Shrub, rather than Justice Breyer, Coulter would have been visited by the Secret Service and locked up long ago. There is simply no excuse for allowing sitting judge to be threatened and intimidated.

13. Pat Robertson and "Dr." James Dobson's FATWA on Judges
...bears fruit in their nutcase followers.

I still think those Radical Clerics (Robertson and Dobson) should have been arrested and detained for their remarks about SCOTUS Justices.

Robertson PETITIONED the DEITY, ON LIVE TV, to smite SCOTUS Justices. He prayed, "Lord, let there be more vacancies on the court." As those are lifetime appointments, I don't see how else he expected God to answer his prayer...

53. I hope DU is recognized as a well known hate group, too.
Why? Because I'm a DUer, and I hate the fuck out of those ignorant fools at the Free Republic. They deserve to be hated, for their ignorance, for their bigotry, for their greed, for their "see spot run" level of policy on foreign affairs and the environment, and most importantly for their willingness to ignore those glaring gaps in their own knowledge and understanding and instead forge straight ahead to the realization of those puppet show dreams by any means necessary except legal ones.

I thank DU for providing me the space to express my antipathy for... those people.

Is that stupid as well? Yes, I suppose it is proving to be a waste of time, being the pissed-off Jiminy Cricket on the shoulder of a long-nosed, wooden brained, lurching nation. But it's either ride on the shoulder and scream or be just another helpless bug underfoot.

Instead of spying on war protesters, our intelligence agencies should (and I sincerely think they would) be investigating threats to judges... any judges, no matter who they may be.

Whether you believe in LIHOP or MIHOP or not (i don't), it was still a right wing terrorist attack.

Al Qaeda is a fascist organization that believes in a hyperconservatism in pursuit of an islamic state. So, that was the worst right wing attack, really.

30. You are so correct, Mr. Moderate, and I've often wondered why that is.
I've come to the conclusion that "leftists" because of their basic belief in peace, cooperation, etc. have to be pushed to greater extremes before they get angry enough to commit violence even when it comes to defending themselves. Also leftist philosophies are less likely to attract the violent fringe that flocks to the right. What do you think?

Peace,

Sniffle....she's a victim....sob.

Ginsberg is not only a liar, but an ugly liar.

Perhaps, just perhaps, they should wonder about this. Americans are normally fairly laid back about most things. I'm sure it couldn't be that people see things as getting dangerously out of sync, a court that for some reason can over rule the executive and legislature. A court that seems to just make up law as it goes along. A court that is oblivious and impervious, or worse, to the effects of its decisions.
None of this would make people start thinking the court is nothing more than a domestic enemy.

In the beginning of the article they actual state that the death threats were "apparently" spurred on by Republicans!!!!! That is truly outrageous.

Yes it is. It evidences the fact that she has no business being on the Court.
That is so over the top, so provocative as to, at the very least, warrant some official condemnation in the form of a censure from every branch of government

The President and members of Congress also must take measures to be secure. It is what people in power must do.
I'm surprised Ginsburg is just finding this out!

Turns out they were not directly threatened at all. Typical distortion and exaggeration from the drama queens on the REAL "irrational fringe" which REALLY threatens the court. Ruth Buzzi is a far more dangerous threat to do harm against America than some wacko blogger.

I take American "media" for what it truely is, propaganda, more specifically corporate propaganda.

i mean I hate to jump to their defense, and certainly the tone sounds about right for them, but the site is not mentioned by name in the article. unless I missed something.

i think the title of this post is mis-leading. sure it COULD be freeperville, but the article doesn't seem to mention the site in question. Putting up a quote that was "on a web site" is tantamount to saying "it says on the Internet." Which is shit journalism, basically.

Just sayin. And again I hate to come across as defensive of that sewer but it seems awfully reactionary to blanket the statement as freeper in the literal sense.
