What is it with people equating adult porn and child porn?

Why is it that whenever a story like the recent child pron ring bust comes up we get people coming out equating pornography in general with child pornography? As someone who watches adult pornography, I'll admit it freely without any guilt, I find the accusation both ridiculous and insulting.

They (rw) want to control everything you see hear or do if it doesn't fit into their belief system. They want bed room police and want to take the country back to the good old days when there was no sex crimes. I'd wager that a good number of them are "addicted" to porn, too screwed-up to accept that they get their jollies looking at pictures. Like the way they view masturbation, it's OK, as long as you don't "do it too much". So, just what is "too much"?

Those of us who are too old, fat, and homely to attract sexual interest from someone else accept a need for porn as part of an evolving sexuality and sense of self. Doesn't help the self-image seeing where I'm considered "sick" by "good, Christian" people, who probably get their nut off of kiddie smut.

Not that it's anyone's biz,but I'm into what they call "Matures" or "Granny porn" so just put those thoughts of me beinfg a NAMBLA fan out of your pointed little heads...

You asked: <18 porn and >=18 porn are both porn. If you draw a distinction based on the age of the "actors" then you are correct in your complaint. If you do not draw an age distinction, then all porn is either good or bad.

I can give you an anecdote that explains why it happens at times but I believe the answer is that we view the discussion through our own experiences and because we don't always use words to correctly distinguish between the two. Now for my anecdote.

My ex-husband used to like porn. He loved the invention of the internet because of it's free and easy access to porn. (Note: his use of the word "porn", not distinct from adult or child.) Near the end of my marriage, I found some of the sites he used to visit on the computer. His favorite? A site of 13 year old girls. Now, to me, that's child porn and it's illegal. But he didn't make that distinction. To him it was just "porn" and "porn" was "natural and healthy".

So, you say porn and I wonder - do you mean legal, adult porn or do you mean what my ex-husband meant? Unless you use the words that distinguish the difference between the two, I have no way of knowing which you are promoting.

Just some honest thoughts in regards to your question. I suppose it would have been easier (and less productive) to just rave about how stupid people are to think the comparison is "ridiculous and insulting".
