THAT is quail hunting? (The Daily Show last night)
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 10:44 AM by underpants
Good lord! There was lots of talk about what a quail hunt consisted of after Cheney got drunk and shot a man in the face but I had no idea it was like that!

Why not just skip the whole gun part and just crush the thing under your boot? That would actual entail some sort of physical requirement.

IF you don't know-as was mentioned often about a month ago- they raise the birds in wire cages and then take them out and ....ready for this part....turn them upside down and stick them under brush so these birds can't get loose. THEN the hunter basically kicks the brush so the bird can fly off and BLAM! they shoot them.

There is no way they could get "30 yards away" not unless you were playing some sick game where-in you let them fly for a while before killing them anyway.

Wow Cheney bagged 70 in a day. WOW he must have needed several drinks to do THAT! :eyes:

I am sure someone will post the video soon-it was quite funny. Worth a watch. great line "They last thing that goes through these birds minds before they are killed is 'Thanks for freeing me'" BLAM!

$7 per Quail
$16 for a Mallard Ducks-which I would pay to have the whole process done and I would just sit at a table and have it served to me.
$75 for the dog (to get the bird) for a half day. Full day was $140.

I think he said it was basically about $1,000 for the whole ....um...shooting match (oh that was bad)

Oh I have to say this---this is NOT anti-gun or anti-hunting. This is anti-lazy ass not a sport outdoorsman BS that is what this is anti.

I went upstairs after watching this on tape this morning and my wife (whose whole family hunts) just said "I told you". WOW I had no idea.

1. Now Cheney will have to be satisfied hunting over the internet
Hunting by remote control draws fire from all quarters

from the April 05, 2005 edition

Hunting by remote control draws fire from all quarters
By Kris Axtman | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
HOUSTON – Sliding his computer mouse around until he locates a moving target, the hunter sets the animal in his sites and pulls the rifle's trigger with a click of his finger. Down goes a wild boar. Another trophy bagged.

Yet in this case it's not a video game. It's a new kind of hunting experience in which people anywhere in the world can sit at home and target real game by controlling a gun in a remote location.

To supporters, it's a way to allow the disabled, among others, to enjoy the thrill of hunting. But critics see it as a form of video slaughter.

Indeed, the concept of live-action hunting - done over the Internet - is raising the hackles of everyone from animal-rights activists to hunting groups to gun advocates. As a result, lawmakers in 14 states are now trying to ban the practice, including Texas, where the only such online hunting facility exists.

5. Yeah I remember that
That was the topic of discussion amongst the in-laws as well. Everyone agreed there is no sport in that either.

I think the Daily Show did a piece on that as well.

7. Very
I am not sure about the demographics but that doesn't really matter to me.

There is no sport in that. You could just drive up and poke at it with a stick and then shoot it.

Amazing.

3. Killing for killings sake.
That is all it is. You could have the same challenge shooting skeet (or whatever it is, clay pigeons?). He just wants to kill stuff, lots of stuff quickly and without a lot of mess and tiresome looking. It disgusts me too.

12. LOL
I don't remember that on your sig line but it certainly does not surprise me, you are such a card!

That was a really effective segement last night. I sat here stunned even though I had a pretty good grasp of what they do. I did not know they put the bird upside down in a trap of brush. Poor things, lousy life and a fast but brutal death. How do people do that to other living things?

11. That was hilarious.
When the guy tells Nate Courdry about the $75 bucks for the dog he comes back with, "Do I get to shoot the dog?"

19. "Nope no dog"
The people seemed to have quite a sense of humor about it. They were probably just laughing at the city boy going hunting.

The whole thing was very funny or at least handled in a funny way.

14. That was canned hunt they illustrated
I know people who do it the old fashioned way, go out where the birds are wild and try to find them in their natural environment. Sometimes they bring back birds. Sometimes they just bring back memories of a nice day's hike and the knowledge that wild birds might be as clever as they are. Real hunters do not shoot animals raised in coops.

The canned hunt birds are barn raised, fed by people, often have trimmed wing feathers so they couldn't get far. Basically, they are the avian equivalent to a couch potato: tame, possibly depressed from lack of natural conditions and stimulation and out of shape to be in no condition to fight for their lives.

Hmmm, makes me wonder about Cheney's blood lust combined with his cowardice. How long before he starts shooting tame, outta shape people? Oh, yeah, we're already there. OK, how long before there are poor houses in America and bigger canned hunts?

18. Yes I should have mentioned that it was a CANNED HUNT
I get the comradery element and all but the hunters I know either eat what they kill or give to Hunters for the Hungry and like groups.

17. Yup, it's a metaphor for Cheney's whole life
Take the easy way out (5-deferment Dick), cheating (Halliburton contracts), self aggrandisement (chooses self for VP), obsessive secrecy (undisclosed locations, Energy commissions) and unmitigated gall (Whittington at fault).

That's Crashcart in a nutshell.

20. But you're missing the point, underpants, check this out
The intelligence reports indicated that the quails were very dangerous. Knowing this reality, the Vice-President could not ignore the threat gathering against him and his hunting companions. Facing clear evidence of peril, Cheney could not wait for the final proof--the smoking gun--that could've come in the form of a Hitchcock movie.

22. But you know what's most annoying about Fuddgate?
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 10:50 AM by Montauk6
The whining and screaming and crying FOUL!!! over the late-night comedy shows.

Maybe I'm dating myself, but does anyone old enough remember what a big joke it was when President Carter got attacked by that rabbit? Granted I may have been too young at the time to notice but I don't remember the Carter Administration getting their panties in a Frist (Steph term) over that. Hell, comics are STILL cracking Monica jokes and you never hear Clinton getting righteously indignant or bent out of shape.

23. It's the new PC
without, of course, being PC.

You can't criticize BUSH in any way.

We are at war
You are politicizing ______
You hate America
You are condescending and out of touch
Everything changed after 9/11

Pick whichever one makes you feel the most smug.

Actually (as I have posted before) you can criticize BUSH as long as it isn't

BEFORE he completely screws up. That is being an "obstructionist".

WHILE he is completely screwing up or WHILE he is covering up the screw up. That is "not offering positive alternatives"

AFTER he screws up. That is "Monday morning quarterbacking" or "revisionist history"
