Censure will bring about impeachment
I just realized that it is not in Bush's nature to "apologize" for anything.

Whenever he is chastized, he doesn't get humble, he lashes out wildly...blindly stiking out at those who criticized him.

So if he is Censured, or even if the Democrats simply hang together to push the motion to the floor, Bush will strike out blindly, against all advice, against any reason, and the actions he takes

WILL
BE
IMPEACHABLE

They will be sooooo obvious that even the Republicans will have to go for it.

1. we dont need 'the' republicans. we need just a handful.
20 or so in the house joining the democrats and impeachment is a reality. 6 in the senate and conviction is too.

5. You will never find 20 republicans in the house
who would vote in favor of impeachment. I doubt that you would be able to find one.

In the Senate it would take the defection of 15 Senators for conviction.

If we don't regain control of the house there will be no impeachment.

2. No way republicans would go along with it.
The only way impeachment happens is with Democratic control of the House.

3. If GOP congress critters don't...
despite public pressure....they will for sure to lose their jobs come November.

So they have a choice. DO the right thing or get fired. Simple as that.

8. If they did vote for impeachment they would lose their job anyway.

They would lose their funding and would not be able to wage a campaign or they would lose in the primaries. Doing what is 'right' is not an option for them. Their only hope is to spin those calling for impeachment into fools or traitors.

10. Nothing is ever simple.
2006 is up for grabs and politicians had better stop behaving as such or we are going to have a bizarre composition of party member alignments. Already, there are at least 2 branches of the repukes, however, they come together for elections ... I don't know that will happen in 2006. The Democrats need to, for once, put aside differences, take 2006 and then work on REAL issues in order to take the prize in 2008.

4. Censure = responsibility
That's what must be established - that Bush is accountable for his actions and that of his adminstration. If it can be done successfully through censure, then impeachment should follow.

6. Censure is very important
Bush basically taunted Congress in his SOTU address -- he dared them to even try to take back the balance of powers.

If nothing else, this is an important message to Bush, and to the American people about the limits of executive power.

7. Bush will not be impeached as long as there is a GOP congress
they control the committees and the agenda and they will not impeach him.

9. I thought impeachment had to begin in the House?
and the Senate can censure? Is that not correct?

13. It does, of course
and the unspoken assumption of my post is that when Bush and company strike back like an enraged ape over Censure (in the Senate by the Dems) that their actions will be so egregious that the House would see the IMPERATIVE for Impeachment.
