Counting the dead with a pool cue
It’s a game of billiards, really. Nothing more. See that string of colored markers overhead? When you reach a certain number of dead civilians, I mean billiard balls, just push them down the line with your cue. That’s all. Easy.

No one has faces anymore. Or sons. Or daughters. Or arms. Or legs. There are no people anymore, that’s what you have to understand. There are markers and green felt, blue chalk and beer for when the markers die, I mean for when the balls go in. Sorry – I’m still learning how the game is played.

The white ball – could it be any other color, really? – is the one we use to hit the others with, but sometimes we hit too hard, and it flies off the table. In Old Billiards, this was known as a “scratch”, but in New Billiards this is called “collateral damage”, and nobody really gives a shit unless people are watching. Then we pretend.

We use white phosphorus – I mean chalk (all these terms –will I ever learn?) to make sure the white ball hits the colored balls (see, I’m learning) just the way we want it to, and after the colored balls go into the pockets no one ever sees them again. If we want to play again, we sneak them out in the dead of night and tell the reporters they never really died (oops, were “pocketed”) in the first place.

So set ‘em up Joe. We’ll call the new game Operation Swarmer, and like always we’ll make the rules up as we go along. Just remember, though – they’re markers. That’s all they are. Little plastic round markers that get moved down the line when we do good.

No arms. No legs. No blood. And fer crissakes no dead kiddies. Who can play pool after that?

God Bless America.

Barkeep, another beer…

1. It has always been this way
humans systematically destroy their young, healthy progeny.

I don't know why. Are we threatened by their energy?
