The Puritans are coming. The Puritans are coming.
Actually they're already here.

Check out the FCC and the fines they levied for minor and/or borderline infractions. Think about it... They fined a Scorsese PBS documentary on the blues. If you can't show reality any more, the only thing you're left with are shows that are either sickeningly sweet and trivial or religious.

Meanwhile, here in Missouri, republicans have decided that they don't want to pay for birth control for the poor. It seems some dim watt bulb without a clue has decided that it will stop "illicit" sex. ...Yeah right. :eyes: Look for it to come to your state soon.

1. This leads me to wonder...
Is stupidity contagious?

6. No but it's genetic
and tends to be against abortion and contraceptives.

So sad for the rest of us.

3. It sounds funny but we are sure moving back wards fast.
And I thought that city on the hill was long dead. I do family history and my family were Puritans. I had to laugh as once I read this about a family member. He was a selectman and you had to be in the church to do that but some one reported he was really a Quaker. That was the wrong church. They hung Quakers at times. I am not sure this will go over after all they also did not believe in make a deal about Christmas. This will kill business.

7. Its sort of funny.
We recognize the trip over with Thanksgiving, but I too have read a little more about the Puritans and its actually rather frightening how cruel they were over matters that were very, very trivial.

9. Do always put these people in the times they lived in.
People for get to do that at times. Being cruel and 'Godly' seemed to have gone hand and hand. It does seem strange to us but they sure believed in it in those times. And these were people who had come out of Tudor England not to many years before. In fact it always gets to me that the second year they were in the new world they made a law that the 'King' did not own all those great big trees.

4. I say edit films and news by placing a still shot that says:
"This scene was deleted because the FCC is now controlled by religious fundamentalists, who have acquired enough political power to control what you see and hear."

5. That's really good, Swamp Rat.
Unfortunately, I think it may also be accurate.

8. Yes but Jon is back home to help out your state now, so sing out!
"Let the Exxon soar,

Like profits never soared before.

From oil soaked coasts straight to your Exxon store,

Let the mighty Exxon's prices soar.

Soar with flapping of her corporate wings,

As the land beneath her stinks:

'Only Crude George, no other kings.'

This country’s just about sucked dry.

We’ve still got a lot of drilling to do to you,

And we can take all your money if we try.

Built by all the oil and struggles

King G W Crude has led us to."

10. Interesting...
they are emboldened to act out on their extremism... just at the very time that the public is growing leery of them (a trend that began with the Schaivo theater - in which the Puritans tipped their hand and showed that their real goal on that one, along with fundraising, was to end things like Living Wills - which congress suddenly backed off upon when they realized the backlash welling up back at home in their district.)

They will try more and more extreme things - and some, fearfully, will pass... but it is the beginning of the end of their political movement - as everyday folks are just a wee bit worried about these folks and their agenda.
