U.S. Lawyer in Terrorism Trial Suggests She Didn't Act Alone
Carla Martin's attorney says she was vilified as a 'lone miscreant' in the alleged tampering.

By Richard A. Serrano, Times Staff Writer
March 17, 2006

WASHINGTON — Government lawyer Carla J. Martin suggested Thursday that she did not act alone in allegedly tampering with government witnesses in the sentencing trial of terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui.

Martin — speaking on the issue for the first time, through a statement by her attorney — did not address the accusation by prosecutors and the presiding judge in the case that she had violated a court order by aggressively coaching seven Federal Aviation Administration officials on how to testify in the trial.

But her Washington lawyer, Roscoe C. Howard Jr., said that when the time comes to explain her actions, "her response will show a very different, full picture of her intentions, her conduct and her tireless dedication to a fair trial."

The Transportation Security Administration said Martin, 51, had been placed on paid leave until her legal situation was resolved.

1. I have to smile.
These days, whenever one of these groups (the prosecution, in this example) tries to be ABOVE the law, and they get BUSTED RED HANDED, i love watching them squirm. In this case, the prosecutors are about to get a SHITLOAD of their own medicine from this woman who isn't going to just let them SLAP the SHIT out of her and leave her wounded while they pretend they are right. THey all tried to win this case outside of the law, now let them pay the price.

2. Ah, the party of "personal responsibility"
The first thing they do when they get caught... THE FIRST THING.. is to either blame someone else entirely or try to rationalize it away somehow.

At least now they're telling tales on each other.

C'mon, Martin, implicate someone!

3. Now it's coming out it was all to protect the airlines
Don't know if this was in the article you linked. I won't register anywhere to read news.

Lawyers for two airlines being sued by 9/11 victims prompted a federal attorney to coach witnesses in the Zacarias Moussaoui death penalty trial so the government's case against the al-Qaida conspirator would not undercut their defense, victims' lawyers allege.

One of the airline lawyers forwarded a transcript from the first day of the Moussaoui trial to Carla J. Martin, a Transportation Security Administration lawyer, the victims' lawyers, Robert Clifford and Gregory Joseph, claim.

4. I knew there was no way it could be "incompetence".
Such a convenient shield for so many of the Bush administrations actions.

6. On AAR, Rachel Maddow suggested that Martin was ordered to do the coaching

so the officials wouldn't get any testimony on record as to the airlines' civil liability.
