Michael Moore owns Halliburton Stock? I don't think so! How inane! Who ARE these people?
Gimme a BREAK!! Do they not see how they THEMSELVES are hypocritical? And tell me, what is wrong with creating a kinder, gentler world through the principles and values they rage against in the first paragraph of this article?
My MIL is a case in point here. She continues to spout this crap about how "liberals" think the government owes them money. If she says this again, the dinnertime conversation's gonna go something like this:
ME: "Well you get a Social Security check from the government every month, don't you?"
MIL: "Well yes..."
ME: "I tell you what. Soon as I finish eating, I'll look up the number to your Social Security office. Then, first thing in the morning, you can call them and tell them you want to discontinue any further Social Security checks coming in because you don't believe people should feel that the government owes them anything. Tell them you're gonna pull yourself up by the bootstraps and you don't need their dirty, liberal government money anymore.
MIL: (Confused, blank look on face, utterly speechless)
Furthermore, my BIL who believes in the same philosophy, is ALSO picking up monthly checks from the government, for disability. Now tell me, NewsHax, how is this not UTTERLY HYPOCRITICAL!
I hope and pray that maybe SOMEDAY they will come to see that the Government is there to HELP the people, and that's what it SHOULD be! What's wrong with that?? Seems like the Christian way to me!
Members of the liberal left exude an air of moral certitude. They pride themselves on being selflessly committed to the highest ideas and seem particularly confident of the purity of their motives and the evil nature of their opponents. To correct economic and social injustice, liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children’s rights, consumer rights, and much, much more.
But do they actually live by these beliefs?
What he found was a long list of glaring contradictions. Michael Moore denounces oil and defense contractors as war profiteers. He also claims to have no stock portfolio, yet he owns shares in Halliburton, Boeing, and Honeywell and does his postproduction work in Canada to avoid paying union wages in the United States.
Schweizer’s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives-their property, their privacy, and their children-they jettison their liberal principles and embrace conservative ones. Schweizer thus exposes the contradiction at the core of liberalism: if these ideas don’t work for the very individuals who promote them, how can they work for the rest of us?
