Have any problems with Acetaminophen?

I sometimes take it for arthritis and in the last 3 nights I have gotten up every hour on the hour, bad dreams and I feel 'drugged'.

Ibuprofen stuffs up my nasal passages, so I stick to organic aspirin
(Nature's Way White Willow Bard Standardized) which I buy online.

For arthritis, I buy the blood-type supplements from North American
Pharmacal... and they work like a charm.

Still, there's nothing I can do about the wear and tear due to old age.
My jaw's out of line and bothers me a lot, but it's minor to what arthritis
can do elsewhere.

5. A possibility

Acetaminophen is processed almost entirely by your liver, and if your liver can't handle it, you can have wakefulness and bad dreams. When I have those symptoms, I know I need to back off on something I'm taking. My doctor recommended Aleve for my arthritis, 2 tabs morning and evening. I seem to handle it better than tylenol. Amount of acetaminophen required to help the pain of arthritis too often comes close to being a toxic dose. I also have bad dreams when I take Ambien.

It filters out poisons. The body interprets nearly all medicines as poison.
It can reach a point where it says "that's it, no more".

not sure if that's your problem, just explaining how you can take the same meds and have them suddenly turn on you.

And it gives me nightmares. Acetaminophen in ineffective against inflammation, only some short circuiting of pain in the brain.
At the level of dosage that I have to take pain relievers and nsaids, as well as steroids and sulfasalazine to control chronic arthritis, acetaminophen would be deadly.
The recent commercials on TV, hawking acetaminophen as useful for arthritis, are the very worst kind of misinformation and are actually quite dangerous. They ought to be sued--big time.

Talk to your doc about whether an anti inflammatory pain drug might be a better choice for you. If your GI system can tolerate one, it might be your solution. Examples are aspirin, iburpofen, and naproxen, and they're all over the counter.

Pain treatment is highly individual. What works for one person won't touch another.

I was just surprised that it is giving me trouble and never did before. I get bad arthritis pain when the weather is going to change, then it settles down(Barometric pressure).

It's going to storm in Denver in the next 2 days. I'll be ok tomorrow.

People think Tylenol (acetomiphen is the generic) is safe, but in large doses it's NOT. NEVER take more than the recommended dose. It can destroy your liver.

I think you start hitting the danger point at about twice the recommended dose, which is easy to reach if you confuse the big super-sized pills with the smaller regular strength ones (500 mg vs. 250 mg, I think). A few drinks of alcohol can really compound the problem...

21. Nightmares

I had that reaction to Percocet, which I believe is Acetaminophen with Codeine. Worked great for 3 days after my shoulder surgery then whamo. Sick as a dog, a headache to end all headaches and nightmares to boot. Switched to Ibuprofen which wasn't as good on the pain but didn't have the side effects. After awhile, the Advil wasn't effective and I switched to Aspirin, 3 325mg tabs morning, noon and night. You can take a slight overdose of aspirin without damaging your liver(unlike Acetaminophen). Took care of the pain issues. With Aspirin, ( or Ibuprofen for that matter) you have to make sure to take it with plenty of water and don't lie down within an hour or it'll burn your stomach. You'll feel nauseous if this happens. I grew up when aspirin was all there was and I tolerate it well. If you have stomach issues, then aspirin isn't for you.

Seems to me (if acetominophen is Tylenol and IIRC), that's s a really bad liver-killing combo.

At any rate, you're smart enough to stop taking it for a while, right?

One other thought, tho. Do you have any food allergies? Or have you been consuming any GMO foods?

Later: I notice othes glommed onto this liver issue as well. I'd give it up for good. You've only got ONE liver, and it does over 500 very, very, very important things for you.
