Are there any Katrina one year anniversary events planned?

I've been thinking about this for awhile because I think it could really help Democrats increase their voter turnout this fall.

I would love to see someone like Chuck D, Queen Latifa, Bill Clinton, and others use their influence to create a one year anniversary relief show for Katrina victim relief. You could have Democratic speakers like Al Sharpton, Rhandi Rhodes, Al Gore, and George Clooney. You could have entertainers like Lil' John, Dave Chappelle, Kanye West, and others perform.

It could be kinda like a three day awards show type format. A network like BET would be perfect. The Democrats could use it to show why America would be so much safer, better of, and taken care of if they were in charge.

The timing would be perfect, as it would fall just two months before the election.

Am I being out of line here?

I never, ever, ever want to go through that shit again. We were at Stennis in Hancock County and that hurricane went on and on and on. At one point, I seriously thought we were going to die. I'd much rather have an anniversary party.

5. I was thinking the same thing--wasn't Ivan about a year before Katrina?

Nobobdy ever talks about Hurricane Ivan from '04. There was a massive evacuation from New Orleans then, but it turned out to just be a windy day. I don't even think it stormed. Nobody weighs the impact of this false alarm on the people who tried to ride out Katrina.

I really think we'll be doing this at least once this season.

Yep, I think we'll be doing it at least twice this year. Oceans are really warm. Predictions of 17 names storms. It's going to be ugly this year.

but stayed during Katrina. I have no desire to go through another 24 hours like that ever again.

I can imagine a solemn mass at St Louis Cathedral with overflow crowd. Then drunken debauchery throughout the quarter. New Orleanians will party for any reason, especially after Mass.

Hopefull we won't have a rerun. I never want to go through that again.

And any announcements of events even closer than that.

The date is a bit long range still, at this point.

10. Whatever Maddy...

I suggested an event for helping Katrina victims; something this current Administration hasn't done.
I suggested we ALSO use the event to get people out to vote.
I suggested we use to wake up America to how my party can help.
I NEVER suggested anyone relive their pain.

If you don't think this is a good idea to get rid of an administration that let thousands suffer and die then fine, but don't you dare question my motives. I lost two dear friends from that hurricane.

9. Those of us in the hurricane belt are nervous nellys right now.

I can't tell you how totally tired I am of hurricanes. We will be spending the summer & fall in front of the WX channel watching storms come and go. Anniversary events for hurricanes during hurricane season just doesn't sound like a good idea. How about a 1 year anniversary for the repubs allowing an American city to be destroyed.

11. Thoughts and a foul taste in my mouth.

I know you're suggesting this with the best of intentions, but it really does leave a foul taste in the mouth. We were left to die and have since been screwed left and right by politicians for having the temerity to survive. People are still without homes, still fighting with FEMA and SBA, still struggling to piece together lives. Nearly 7 months later, there are still politicians being photographed while helping to remove debris and rebuild. No matter the good intent behind it, I don't see how anyone from the gulf coast would get behind this.

For a 1 year anniversary, it would be nice if the levees were built to spec, all the displaced had rooves over their heads, food on the table and a steady job.
