Matthews wonders: "What happened to respect" for the president?
:eyes:

This just in

For all the talk about Bush's bubble, one has to wonder about the translucent sphere in which Chris Matthews has been hanging out. The president's job approval ratings have been in the negative range for almost a year now, but Matthews -- who spends five nights a week talking about politics on "Hardball" -- seems to be shocked by the news.

As Media Matters notes, Matthews was proclaiming as late as November that "everybody sort of likes the president, except for the real whack-jobs, maybe on the left." News to the contrary seemed to sink in for Matthews earlier this week, when he had to come to terms with a Wall Street Journal/NBC News Poll that found that 50 percent of the public has a "somewhat negative" or "very negative" view of the president. Matthews read the poll results on the air and declared himself "amazed."

Now, it seems, he's just bewildered. As we noted Thursday, respondents in a new Pew Research Center poll used words liked "incompetent" to describe Bush, and Matthews says he just can't believe it. "I checked this twice," he said on last night's show. "I couldn‘t believe it, but it's true -- forty-eight percent of the people responding to this poll used such words as 'incompetent,' 'idiot,' and 'liar' to describe our president. Kate O'Beirne, what happened to respect?"

We've got a different question to ask: What ever happened to having a clue?

1. I think it disappeared when they persecuted Clinton.
Matthews is a neocon whore through and through. I personally believe the anti-American propagandists like Matthews should be punished for their treasonous activities.

3. I'm wondering where the President's respect for us went.
Doesn't he works for us, Tweety!?

And that seems to be something the RW nutjobs have forgotten. He's suppose to be our servant. When he screws up, it's our duty to let him know about it....Arrogant pricks!

15. Matthews lost it for me in 2000
He kept on pounding on Gore for what amounted to lacking 'down homeness' and lack of sincerity.

He liked Bush cause "you could have a beer with the guy"

For Mathews the ideas and policy of the candidate did not seem to matter.

I really think that for Mathews his show's title really tells you what he is about.
He is interested in the exertion of power...in its various forms. Not too concerned
about the purposes or results of such power may be.

Just a bit too arrogant.

20. Well...when only a few people are allowed to participate in
government, when the president limits protest, when only a selected few get invited to campaign stops, and on and on...

perhaps Matthews is a little to dense to figure it out, but I can see that when a president isn't a president for the whole nation, respect might be lost.

Those are the real whackjobs. If you want to know why people dont respect the president, maybe if we had a leader that was actually respectable, we would respect the president. FUCK YOU.

never has a 'president' been so thoroughly hated, Tweety Pie. Disgust, revulsion, absolute hatred, virulent nausea , this so called 'president' deserves nothing but utter contempt. Matthews needs a crowbar to get his head out of Bush's arse.

I have a lot of respect for *'s ability to lie, and arrogantly savage the US Constitution. He's one of the best (if not the best) that I' ve seen at it in my lifetime. I also respected some aspects of Hitler. Respect and Hatred are not mutually exclusive emotions.

Respect is earned, and is a two way street. Bush is not a fucking king - he works for us.

I have respect for people who have a true moral compass, true compassion in their heart, a social conscience, intellectual curiosity, etc. Bush wouldn't know any of those qualities if they bit him in the ass.

33. What happened to his sworn pledge to "preserve, protect, and defend
the Constitution of the United States of America"?

I'll do it the same way I did when I was in the Air Force - I'll have all the respect that is due the office or the position, but the MAN holding that office has to earn my respect.

(I note that he actually did put his hand on a bible - twice - and swore to uphold the Constitution; he didn't put his hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the bible!)

It's really quite simple. Respect has to be earned, and Shrub simply hasn't.

I've used this phylosophy for many years, in business, personal relationships, and every other relationship I've ever had. I will trust you until you give me a reason not to, and I will respect you when you earn my respect!

I haven't had that fail me yet!
