My Letter to NPR's Marketplace : Re: piece on spending cap
I want to call attention to the subject matter that aired on MarketPlace on 3/16.

This was a piece aired in the evening regarding the cap on U.S. budget spending, which was raised by Congress. It aired opinions by congress members lamenting the fact that spending was still out of control.

BUT. No where in the piece did it discuss Defense Spending or the war in Iraq. Polls show that most U.S. citizens are opposed to this war. Why was this not mentioned?

Instead, the piece DID mention Medicare and Medicaid - as liabilities and entititlement spending. These programs ARE popular with the general public.

The one source quoted was the American Enterprise Institute - a group that doesn't hide their right-ward tilt.

This piece was so blatantly slanted toward corporate, right-wing interests - NOT the public - I am flabbergasted.

Any $ donations toward NPR or WETA clearly supports programming NOT in the public interests. I will never help support this effort and will urge others to do the same.

1. I usually defend NPR's programming, but this a.m. they were quoting
the free-republic guy, so I've got nothing. . .

2. There's been mostly crap on NPR..
... since the early 2000s. I quit sending them money in 2003, after listening to Colin Powell spew his laundry list of lies with absolutely no counterpoint, rebuttal or factual followup.

The jackasses still send me notices every few weeks asking me for money. I need to write them a letter, I hate that they are wasting their money because I still listen here and there and it's gotten better than it was 2-3 years ago but it's still not worth paying for.

3. Maybe we can SHAME them into changing their tune?
I really am astounded with announcers who even say the word "public."

NPR is now NCR: "National Corporate Radio."
