Most Disgraceful Event In Recent US History?
I'm hard pressed to choose between:

Colin Powell's pre-war presentation to the UN.

George Bush's childish display on the aircraft carrier.

What do you see as our low?

31. I thought I was watching a re-run of "Weekend at Bernies".
My God! They hauled his body back and forth between the coast and other places that I was worried about an endurance problem. It finally occurred to me that they probably were hauling and empty box around for convenience.

49. I totally agree
in the weeks after, Katrina was often compared to 9/11.

I can understand being blindsided/confused/taken aback by 9/11.

But with Katrina, everybody knew for days in advance. And the thing that people sometimes forget is that the storm wasn't even as bad as expected! Jesus!

Fucking shame. Shame! SHAME!

This administration has shamed America to the world, alienated our allies, killed over 2,300 of our troops and countless thousands of Iraqis. Now they are making the same noises about Iran and I fear it will happen all over again.

I've not been a conspiracy theorist, but I have to say, that the longer questions posed by works like "Loose Change" don't get answered and more doubts get created with other related news (Sibel Edmonds, etc.), and if we do find out that their was a MIHOP or LIHOP conspiracy then, that will easily be the most disgusting day in history then.

upon all Americans,

where hundreds if not thousands waited up in the buildings of the WTC waiting, to be rescued only to have the buildings crush them to death.

America and those who died deserve the truth.

RE-OPEN 9-11.

Bubba's bombing of an aspirin factory doesn't even register. No matter how many innocents may have lost their lives in the attack. OR, how may innocents may have lost their lives because of the loss of the aspirin output of the said bombed factory.

Sometimes I wonder what separates "moderates" from "progressives".

There can be no doubt about this. This is a disgusting legacy which will haunt us for decades. When people look back at this, there will be no case to make for the virtue or honor of America in this era.

Katirna was awful, for sure. But I think sodomizing prisoners as a matter of policy is the worst thing we've done in my lifetimte.

48. Katrina
Without a doubt, Katrina was the most disgraceful event in recent US history. How the richest and most powerful nation in the history of the world could fail so many of their own is beyond belief.

The Iraq war was forced onto the Americna public by a small cabal of neo-cons who had the will to impose their agenda. But Katrina revealed just how passively the country was willing to accept the policies dictated by similar people.

It was one thing to feel helpless when the planes hit the twin towers on 9/11. We had no warning and very little means of understanding that experience. But with Katrina, we had plenty of warning, and we've all seen horrible storms before. But the administration chose to do virtually nothing. Jesus. Thinking about it just pisses me off.

50. I'd say Katrina SO FAR is the worst, but 9/11 could be worse later...
... if and when we discover the truth around our government's complicity in it. It's one thing to in effect take a LIHOP approach to letting the disaster of Katrina wreak havoc in a diabolical way, which I would say is as disgusting as most of us can remember. But if we find out that our government was complicit in the events of 9/11 where a man-made act against our people was fomented by our own government, that to me is far worse, even if the scope of the numbers of people dying is less than Katrina. You can probably extrapolate the deaths in the Iraq war also being a result of 9/11 if it is found to have been an orchestrated event, which makes its impact worse too, since Iraq would never have happened if we hadn't had 9/11 first to allow these fascists to use it as an excuse to go into Iraq.
