4. I hope to be carrying just one!

I have a Wisconsin map which shows the names, dates, and hometowns of all 51 of the soldiers we have lost. "Support Our Troops - Bring them home alive". I'll carry this one.

I made another for my religious group which says "the here and now is sacred" and "love friends and enemies".

And I have a standup sign for a table which is to recruit people for the congressional race I am going to work on- Bryan Kennedy, who is running against the notorious James Sensenbrenner. "Build a New House of Representatives".

I tend to make a new one for every rally, but bring along the old one if its pertinent.

I have put hours and hours into my WI map with its 51 dead soldiers so I keep it updated and I bring it everywhere.

I'll be marching with fellow congregants from Peace Church of the Brethren. I haven't decided what my sign will say. I'm mulling the ever-popular (among Church of the Brethren folks) "All War Is Sin" or "A Traitor To A Dictator Is A Patriot."

Silent Vigil for Peace

Each Saturday at Noon, for one hour.
For over three years, Quakers and others have been vigiling silently for peace on the West Lawn of the Capitol in Washington. This is not a demonstration, or a protest. We stand in silent witness for peace for one hour each Saturday. On March 18th, please come join us as the third anniversary of the tragic War on Iraq passes. Please bring no signs or banners, but do bring yourselves, and your hopes for peace.
Look for the simple blue banner, "Seek Peace and Pursue It" Ps. 34:14.

The National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance is organizing "From Mourning to Resistance," a March to the Pentagon on Monday, March 20, that will culminate in nonviolent direct action. This March on the Pentagon will begin with a gathering at 9 AM on Daniel French Drive, which is near 23rd and Independence. At 10 AM, there will be a march across the Arlington Memorial Bridge to Lady Bird Johnson Grove, near the Pentagon. At both sites, there will be speakers and music. The speakers are as follows: Bruce Gagnon, a Vietnam era veteran and director of the Global Network Against Nuclear Weapons & Power in Space, Fr. Joe Mulligan from Nicaragua, Global Call for Nonviolent Resistance, Laura Costas, Military Families Speak Out, Mike Ferner, Veterans For Peace and Voices for Creative Nonviolence, and Michael Berg whose son was beheaded in Iraq. There will be a ceremony to honor the dead, before a delegation attempts to deliver a coffin to Secretary of War Donald Rumsfeld. Participants should RSVP to Max at 410-323-7200, ext. 31 or mobuszewski afsc.org. Participants are encouraged to identify their home town and/or state and to carry signs or placards with names and pictures of Americans and Iraqis who have died in the war.

The march begins across from Observatory Circle--residence of the Vice-Warmonger, and goes to Dupont Circle. The weekly peace vigil is on the west lawn of the capitol. :thumbsup:

I knew about the vigil. I didn't know the details of the march, though. I just need to remember to find the right metro station before I go (I went for the protest against the Alito confirmation, and didn't know what stop to get off at, and ended up wandering around south DC for a couple hours then going home).

Boo, it would be the Woodley Park stop on the red line. Head north on Connecticut, then west on Cathedral, and then to 34th--I'm sure you'll see everyone.

You'll get it! Metro is one of the easiest to navigate and most accessible transit systems--you'll get there!

Just FYI, the Vice-Warmonger's residence is technically on Mass Ave, so I guess around 34th and Mass. I know we're meeting "across" fromt that, but if you get in the general area, I'm sure you'll see the freaks! :hippie:

You can have it blown up and printed big at Kinkos for less than $4. Kinkos did the calculating for me and it was a 290% zoom to fill the large paper. Then tape or use 3M Super 77 spray adhesive to attach it to a flattened cardboard box.

28. So how was your day?

I'm in DC and was both surprised and disappointed at the low turnout. What was there was great--just low numbers--only about 600-800 (guesstimating.)

Perhaps I'm just used to the "big" ones typically held here? I marched from the Iraqi embassy to the White House on International Women's Day, and there were definitely more people for that.

Just curious about other cities?
