I yelled at a recruiter today
My daughter was volunteering at a school bazaar today. As she and I were walking around looking at the items for sale, a young man was commenting on the posters on the wall in the career center for military recruiting. He exclaimed loudly, to no one in particular, that he was making sure the school was following the rules and sufficiently posting the information and that he used to be a recruiter.

My daughter told me that someone she knows is signing up for the service. I told her that it was a dangerous time to be in the military. And he piped up that it was less dangerous than living in the united states and that more people get killed in the US than in Iraq. I told him that was nothing but propaganda and I hope that he is not telling children that line of bull. He exclaimed that it was true, that he just returned from over there and he is ok...and only 2400 of our soldiers have been killed--much less than World War II.

I got pissed off. I asked him if he seriously was trying to tell me that Iraq is safer than the US? I asked him if he was seriously comparing WWII with Iraq. I asked him if part of his method of recruiting was to lie to the children. He left.

2. He doesn't care about all the Iraqis killed obviously
They don't factor in. Comparing Iraq to WWII is not a fair comparison. We didn't start that one on false pretenses.

4. It doesn't matter. And don't worry, the memory of those you killed
and the things you do while there won't haunt you when you come back. No, not at all.

21. And there are a lot of wounded no one talks about
How many men and women have lost leg, sustained serious, permanent head injuries? Their lives are forever altered for this folly. Yet we rarely hear about them. At least we never hear about them from REPUBLICANS or Rush Limbaugh. To hear them talk, nothing bad is happening.

3. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
There would be a lot more dead Americans soldiers if it weren't for the advancements in the medical field on the battlefield.......let's just suppose that half of the wounded had actually died....the toll would be much higher.

7. Wonder if he knows there are more people in country in the US
than US troops in Iraq. US deaths to US troops in Iraq deaths is apples and oranges. On top of that error in logic: He's not counting dead Iraqis as dead people, obviously.

Glad he was faced down and left!

8. that was his logic
He said he had to give a presentation on the subject to his commander recently. That is when I asked him if he was seriously trying to tell me that it is safer to be in Iraq than in the US. I told my daughter not to be fooled by these guys, that they are lying to her.

It makes me want to call the school and find out exactly what the recruiters are presenting to the children.

Sounds like he was born to be a recruiter.
I don't suppose it's a coveted job these days.
Right up there with selling Kirbys or time shares.

But you'll never get through to a self-important neo-con asswipe!
But he's been brainwashed and he was just looking for attention!!
Next time, don't give him any!!
Why else would he be saying it loudly, "to nobody imparticular"??
He sounds like a "wannabe" to me and a fucktard!!

Hope you don't let him ruin the rest of your day!
Go to a Peace March tomorrow marking the 3RD Anniversary of the War in Iraq!
Be the counter balance!!

30. And if more Americans are being killed here, why are we over there?
Why isn't all the money being spent to save American lives here, then?

Next time, agree with him, so he ought to be recruiting people to become first responders eg, which there's a huge shortage of here. How about fighting to do something about what's making this country less safe than Iraq, if he's telling the truth, it makes NO sense to be signing up people to go where they're not needed.

15. I saw some recruiters today.
They were sitting in front of one of the race cars that had been brought into the mall. I wanted to ask them if the army owned the race car they were sitting in front of.

26. They SPONSOR them. They are not the race team owners.
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 06:35 PM by A HERETIC I AM
As the poster above relates, they are merely a sponsor. Just like Budweiser and Home Depot. They send a check to the team owner and he puts their logos on the cars, the team uniforms and the transporters. Here's a link to the teams website;

but it comes out of the recruiting budget. But, at the end of the day the money is indeed taxpayer dollars.

16. Brainwash em while they're young!
The sad thing is, it works.

Good for you for stating your position though, especially in front of your daughter; she learned an invaluable lesson in watching you stand up to what is seen as an authoritarian figure. Luckily for you, he was alone, and this happened on the school campus. Authoritarians of most stripes are often ineffectual on their own, but place them within their "group," where and how they were indoctrinated in a peer setting, and the bloodlusting, sadist bully will quickly manifest and be looking to "get in your face." It's the American Way!

17. Right on and good for you!
My daughter who just got OUT of the army after nearly nine years is so disillusioned with the military it's unbelievable (She is a very good soldier, and loved the being in the army for quite a while)
While she was getting out, they gave her a lot of shit of course, and put every obstacle in her way possible, but she did get out. During this process, on one of her last days in, She had to go into an office for Reservists for some reason. They tried to pull some kind of crap. This is what she told them:

"NOBODY wants to join the reserves. (from regular army to reserves) NOBODY. And I'm coming here and you're going to give me poor customer service? If I came in here WANTING to join the reserves I wouldn't now after this shit." The conversation went down hill from there.

The army told her so many lies I think it'll take a long time for her to get over thier bullshit.

19. The number of deaths in a population of 300,000,000 is greater than
the number of deaths in a population of 150,000. Wow, what a revelation. I guess we could all make ourselves much safer just by moving to smaller countries where the raw number of deaths is lower due to fewer people. This could be a good arguement for emigrating to Luxembourg.

22. My take on recruiters
they have quotas just like salesman and many will stretch the truth sometimes. I think the best way is to talk with your kids and let them know what it entails. I have a cousin who is entering the ROTC program. he asked me many questions about service and I frankly told him you must understand that you may actually be killed or lose a limb, etc. As long as they don't think everything's rosy before signing I'm ok. It's the lies and misleading portrayals of military duty that piss me off.

23. "The Army will make a man out of you!"
It just might be a dead man, is the part they try not to mention! And what about the ladies? The recruiters lie ALL the time, because they are "just doing their job!" They lied during Vietnam and they are lying yet today! Look at the example that their Lying Commander in Chief sets for them ALL...HE Lies, every time he opens his mouth.

The military will promise you anything you want to hear, but you and your lawyer had better read every word of the fine print, because after you sign the papers you BELONG to them, for the duration of your contract. If you do not follow the letter of that contract, they can put you in Leavenworth and throw away the key. If they don't follow the letter of the contract "Tough Shit!" You give up your rights to the normal legal system once you sign up and you are then subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice, or UCMJ. It's a whole other ball game in the military! It's a kind of glorified slavery! "The Army Takes Care Of It's Own," but if you step out of line, they have ways of taking care of that too.

I was glad as Hell to get out alive with an honorable discharge! I prefer my FREEDOM, but to each his/her own!

24. We had a popular saying in Basic Training,
"Don't be sad, don't be blue,
My recruiter f*cked me too!"

The only thing recruiters care about is making their numbers, and they'll tell any lie to get someone to sign up. There was only one person in my unit who didn't have a recruiter tell him a lie -that was because he was arrested and was told to sign up or go to jail.

Being a Service Recruiter SHOULD be an honorable job. But it's not, because the pigs will say or do anything to make their numbers.

They don't care, they get to stay Stateside.
