I am currently reading Trout Fishing in the Reflection Pool or the Fireside Watergate. 1973 by Nicholas von Hoffman and Garry Trudeau.

The book has a story where G Gordon Liddy as requesting death, if that is what "the mission" called for.:patriot:

'Liddy said he would never reveal any information in the course of any investigation even if it led to him. But if we were not satisfied with that assurance he said that, though he was opposed to suicide, if we would instruct him to be on any street corner at any time, he would be there and we could have him assassinated.'

This, friends, is a perfect example of what the neo-cons are willing and capable of. Be aware. These people are not kind.

Liddy describes himself as having been sickly as a child, and possessed of many irrational fears. To confront and overcome these fears, Liddy performed various acts that would "kill the fear". Examples include catching, cooking and eating a rat (in order to overcome a phobia to rats) and climbing a tree during a thunderstorm (in order to overcome a phobia to lightning).

One of Liddy's most famous feats of endurance involved holding his hand on a candle flame until the flesh on his hand was burned. According to the book All The President's Men, he did this once at a dinner party and afterwards somebody asked "What's the trick?". He replied, "The trick is not minding." (In giving that response, Liddy may have been copying a line spoken by Peter O'Toole (portraying T. E. Lawrence) in one of the opening scenes from the 1963 motion picture Lawrence of Arabia.)

Controversial statements

During Liddy's tenure as a radio talk-show host, many controversial statements have been attributed to him, some of which would eventually lead to condemnation by then-President Bill Clinton.

While often talking a great deal about military matters and promoting his “tough guy” persona, Liddy in fact was stationed at Coney Island during his two years in the US Army, and never saw combat.

the group who became the core neocons were conservative democrats. Liddy was an intelligence operative, with extremely conservative views. In the Watergate era, they were distinct.

Liddy is an odd character. When people refer to him as a sociopath, that is not accurate. One can disagree with him on 100% of his political views, but not have to be concerned that he is a liar in the sense that a Newt Gingrich, a Lewis Libby, a Dick Cheney, a Sean Hannity, or other weasals are.

Again, in the Watergate and post-Watergate era, he was the most honest of the players about what really happened. His opinions are off the wall, including on Watergate. But of anyone, from within the White House or outside, including those who testified, Liddy was the most honest and accurate.

He has a mean and brutal side, and sees things in very rigid, black versus white terms. But one knows what they are up against with him.

I have met what I would describe as 'real warriors' who have a mystic quality about them, but Liddy doesn't fit that exactly either.
