Okay...now I've got a "BLOG" but how do I get folks to come to it?
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 07:51 PM by KoKo01
 I've got some rudimentary thing up ...and haven't decided yet on my final "skin" (I had to Google to figure out what that was) but DU Admins gave many selections so I tried several and ended up with one I thought I'd try.

I just posted my recent posts on there that folks didn't reply to in great numbers...I linked a couple of other DU'ers "Journals" giving me a start to do "cross linking" and I gave James Wolcott a "tip-o-the Hat" in my Blog Roll.

I've got something up there.....and believe me I'm so clueless that it's amazing I could do what I did....

But, how do I get folks to come? Do I need to learn "Animated gif's" and that kind of stuff? I know the terminology but the practice in making my BLOG really catchy that folks would want to visit is beyond me...so far.

Do I need to post Nudie Males? G-Strings dancing? Personal Angst?

WHAT? I know my Blog needs more work...and it's a good opportunity for me to learn to be more creative...but what if I learn and STILL no one comes?

Do I need to put a SIGN OUT saying.... "COME TO MY BLOG/JOURNAL...I'M CLUELESS AND YOU WON'T GET COOL GRAPHICS...BUT I'm WORKING ON IT?" I haven't seen anyone actually "Hawking their Blog" like selling things at a Flea Market...but maybe I just am not clued into the KOOL GUYS who know all this stuff? (No one would ever call ME a FUN DU'er..sadly I was born with a very serious nature.) :-(
I see our "Lounge Folks" are way ahead of me with lots of visitors and even though I "UPDATE" my Blog it never shows up as "updated" or new?

Where do I go from here. ??? :dilemma: :banghead:

I especially like the Sesame Street Repugs.

In Full Metal Jacket the closing scene music was from 'The Mickey Mouse Club'. In my mind i think of Viet Vets as being Mickey Mouse Club Children. They did well for themselves the Mouseketeers.

M I C K E Y

M O U S E

The Sesame Streeters failed.

It looks very professional, and, there is an icon on your post here that says that your journal is updated.

I am not sure if you need to do anything else but post as your journal icon shows up everytime you post.

Nice job!!

I'll start discussing tips on how to drive traffic to your blog.

Right now, there are only two posts, but I've got a whole bunch in the pipes.

I've got a fairly successful blog at Brainshrub.com, and I'd like to use my DU journal to discuss SEO strategies for political blogs.

Quick tip: Update your journal every day.

ON EDIT: Another idea is to re-name yourself Will Pitt.

39. Follow these steps:
1) Go to your journal.
2) Click "Edit Journal"
3) Scroll down to the Journal Modules and click the "Edit Module" button on the blogroll line.
4) Where you see -Username- enter "brainshrub"
5) Click the "Save Changes" button.
6) Pat yourself of the back for a job well done.

30. KoKo01 I just visited your blog it looks really good!
I am just an old grandma myself and have enough trouble navigating around the web. I hope to be as courageous as you some day and give that journal stuff a try. For now I'll watch and hopefully learn a little. As soon as Brainshrub tells me how to put someone's journal in my favorites I'll put in yours. It looks and reads great! Good on you.

34. Well thanks...believe me if "i" could do it ...
you can walk yourself through it. The biggest thing to know is that a "Skin" just means a "Template" in "old world speak." So the Admins give you a choice. And if you hit "preview" you can see what kind of "template" you want to use to "format" your blog. You can see a "sample" with NO committment... And you can kind of just post whatever comments or posts you've made on DU by hitting under a post that says "My Journals" and then it puts you into setting it up.

It's kind of hunt and peck if you are like me...and don't know what the hell you are doing...but if you managed to get online at all..you kind of know what that's about...

We kind of need to help each other on this for the clueless..so I hope what I said made sense and if it doesn't PM me...

Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 12:59 PM by KoKo01
In "Old World terms" what is it and how can a typist relate to it? Is it something one types in and then moves? What function does it serve?

Also how does one get "copy" in a grey box the way some posters can make parts of their post stand out from the background. Is there some html code one types to make one's copy go in a box?

41. Don't worry about it
Just keep adding your discussion posts to your journal, the ones you like yourself and you'd want people to read. Then as you build it up, people will go there and read so they don't miss any. I've been visiting a lot of blogs through the "Random Journal" button, too, so I guess others are doing that. I don't have much content on mine yet, because I've been concentrating on getting it to look the way I wanted it, but this is really an opportunity to express yourself. Just have fun with it, KoKo.
