How do we get the democrats to start making some noise?
I am pretty upset right now after just getting off the phone with my republican mother. To give a bit of background; Mom began to get pretty disheartened with the president around the time Katrina devastated the gulf and then went on vacation. She was distraught over his social security plan as well but what put her over the edge was Dubai.

Tonight out of nowhere she blurted out that she is sick and tired of hearing Bush make speeches over bullshit every five minutes. She said she was disgusted with the republican run congress and had lost trust in them. She asked me why the democrats weren't raising the roof about him. I don't have an answer for her, does anyone else here have one?

It is very frustrating for us to watch but I'm getting the clear impression that Americans think the time has come for democrats in office to step up to the plate.

I think the Democrats will have to run nude through the senate building in order to get some coverage?

3. They don't want to look "petty" in the eyes of the '06 voters
That's why there's so much noise over the "censure" issue. Plus the Repuke media machine will smear 'em in a moments notice.

This lady is 82 years old and said she prefers Alan Colmes now instead of Tweety. lol She said Colmes is "reasonable" and feels he tells the truth. :wtf: It makes me believe she isn't the only one.

10. Withhold donations--make them reach into the war chests
and work for the votes. Some of these guys just prefer to sit on a pile of cash. Remember Joementum who thinks it is his job to change his constituents' minds instead of listening to them.

15. Threaten their jobs
Serve notice we'll vote third party rather than support some place holder who is fattening his own retirement while neglecting the job we hired him to do.

That's the only thing that will get through to those smug assholes.

17. The democrats need to announce their platform and move forward
An honest answer to your question. Look at the facts.

1. Bush is a lame duck. he is not running again, so the anti-bush platform will only take the dems so far. IF they win over the Senate and House they can pursue impeaching him if they want.

2. America understands democrats are anti bush. what they don't understand is how they would SPECIFICALLY do things differently. Focusing all their energy on anti-bush will only get the dems so far, like to the 2008 elections. IF the dems don't come up with something better than anti-bush, everyone had better prepare themselves for another republican in the white house. sad but true.

3. get a candidate who WON'T engage in anti-bush retoric, rather focus on the agenda for the future. bush is in the past (or will be soon).

just my $.02

19. Those die hard republicans are waitng
for our side to DO something though. This out of my mothers mouth and she goes to the senior center and discusses this. These older folks think we have no balls and they talk among themselves about how there are no more real Americans in politics. I feel it's going to screw with our chances this year too.

20. Feingold is a good example of this...
Republicans believe democrats don't have an agenda and as long as all America hears is anti-bush, America may agree with repubs in 08. Many republicans have actually complimented Feingold for actually standing up for what he believes in, even tho they disagree.

if dems just start focusing on their 08 agenda, they will have a better chance of winning IMHO.

21. The Chair of the Democrats and the grassroots has an agenda
The party has an agenda but the elected reps are kind of all over the place. Dean isn't being heard enough and he is doing a lot for the party. Perhaps we should lead from the front i.e by the party and the people?

22. They have been making noise and it's been effective
It's why Bush's polls are so low. It's why the polls on who people in this country would like to see in control of Congress favor the Dems.

There has been action and their has been dissent and it has been noticed. That's why the Repubs are so scared lately.

23. yeah but Bush isn't running in 08
there are a lot of republicans unhappy with bush but won't be willing to vote against the next republican nominee based on just anti bush. they need to convince those people exactly why voting democrat will be better than voting for the next rep, after all it won't be bush.

24. Then they should stick to the issues they believe in
Democrats do stand for things. They do stand for good and affordable health care. They do stand on rescinding the tax breaks that pay corporations to outsource jobs. They do stand on clean elections and for civil rights and so forth. They do stand on fiscal discipline and not lying to the American people and they do stand for a sane foreign policy.

How are those issues wrong for 06 or 08?

27. Since we all have been wondering the same thing, I can
see your dilemma. My opinion is that the complacent Democrats are as much in bed with the corporations who are profiting from this war as the Republicans and don't want to rock the boat. That leaves us with too few Democrats who have been attempting to get these issues on the table, like John Conyers, who has to conduct hearings in basements and other non-official places because they won't let him do it Congress.
