1. They'll make sure that the war machine is always well........
lubricated and has the fuel it needs to conduct their missions of death. Regular people like you and I won't be as fortunate, but the armed forces will never lack the energy it needs.

2. How much more quickly are we reaching peak
than we would have if we hadn't invaded Iraq, with all the wells sabotaged, fuel used not only in Iraq, but in transportation/shipping for equipment, troops, supplies, on and on ad nauseum? It may be a drop in the bucket, but when the bucket is nearing empty, every drop counts.

8. Actually, that likely pushed the peak off.
Wars in the mideast, and rumors of those wars, have two primary effects on the oil markets. First, the uncertainty drives up price, which slows demand growth. Second, they can cut production, which means oil is left in the ground. Oil left in the ground can be brought up later.

3. "We Were Warned" CNN Presents
We Were Warned
Tomorrow's Oil Crisis
What if a hurricane wiped out Houston, Texas, and terrorists attacked oil production in Saudi Arabia? CNN Presents looks at a hypothetical scenario about the vulnerability of the world's oil supply, the world's remaining sources of oil and explores the potential of alternative fuels.

Poll: Most Americans fear vulnerability of oil supply
Behind the Scenes: Powering the planet
Watch: 'Living on an illusion'
Watch: 'Long war of the 21st century'
Watch: Are big cars irresponsible?
Calculator: How much are you spending on gas? Gallery: Alternative fuel

4. Did you see the CNN piece
on Brazil and their conversion to ethanol? How disappointing is it that Brazil can do this and the U.S. is so far behind? The Oil Lobby has totally f*cked us on this issue - the bought votes, the propaganda, etc. I was in a conversation with 2 liberal friends - one of them didn't believe that Global Warming was anything to be concerned about, the other made the claim that no engine had been invented to handle ethanol b/c it burned too hot.

5. I've been using it for 11 years
in the same pickup and have never had engine problems or repairs, other than oil changes and a belt, here and there.

11. Yes, and wasn't it interesting, in an ironic way, that
they highlighted James Woolsey, former CIA director, asserting "leadership, conservation, and a genuine commitment to alternative fuels and hybrid technology as matters of national security" to the peak oil issue and how they showed him in his little hybrid with the bin Laden bumper sticker?

6. We are speeding toward disaster.
I don't think there's any question that we're going into Iran next. Now that Iran threatened Europe with supply shutdown if the E.U. continued to interfere with their nuclear development, it's pretty clear. Our criminal gov't will use brute force to keep our addiction going, lest their precious oil industry chums lose profits. Every large auto I see, every building with lights burning at night for no apparent reason, just burns me up.

This will not end well.

10. We may see more cargo sent by freighter & barge, but still powered.
Measure by ton-miles of cargo transported per BTU expended, a freighter comes out way ahead of just about anything else.
