Libby is bringing (failure to find) WMD to the fore again in his defense.
This brings up an old question of mine, namely, what went wrong with the WMD planting operation anyway?

I take it as a given that the Bushies knew Saddam had no operational WMD, or they would never have gone in the way they did, in their "long march" up from Basra, thereby risking many thousands of casualties to chemical & possibly bio weapons. Not that I imagine them to have the slightest compassion for the poor troops, but it would have been really terrible PR to lose your whole army before you even get to Baghdad.

Therefore they must have had plans to plant stuff. And there were some stories on the fringe about WMD planting teams getting caught or otherwise having their plans go awry.

But still, it seems that a bunch of psychopaths like these guys could have found some way to fortify the WMD cover story without grasping at aluminum tubes, satellite pictures of God-knows-what and old trailers. If it had been me, I would have just announced that we found some stuff and we aren't gonna show it to anyone because it's super-double-top-secret classified. I mean, shit, what would prevent them from making up stories from whole cloth and who would be the wiser?

2. Well, perhaps.
But then why did they get all freaked out about Wilson? By now, I don't think anybody gives a shit anymore. WMD or no, we're in a totally fucked military adventure with no good end in sight. We're supposedly there to bring democracy now, and the WMD story has been declared inoperative (as Ron Ziegler, Nixon's old press sec'y always used to say).

Dick Cheney exposed Valerie Plame to cover up his association with A.Q. Khan's Nuclear Walmart. Read about it here: http://s93118771.onlinehome.us/DU/AMERICANJUDAS.pdf

3. Wasn't the problem with "transplanted WMDs" is that it is traceable?
And supposedly the Special Ops refused to do it.

4. Yeah, but what if they just make up the story?
We found a buncha poison gas & 400 artillery shells designed to deliver it. We had to classify all the evidence to keep other people like the Syrians from finding out how to make them. Here are some slightly foggy pics of the artillery shells, but they look a lot like any other kinda artillery shells.

7. Musical war rational
It is soooooooooooo fucked that the reasons to have this Iraq War has been in a state of perpetual change for the last three years.

How can you have a War and not be ABSOLUTE on the reason for it?

Easy - you can't!

Unless you're GWB.

And us sheeple accept it all without question. One of the most absurd situations in the history of warfare and we all accepted it blindly.

(Wolfowitz: We went to War for WMDS BECAUSE IT WAS THE ONLY REASON WE ALL AGREED ON!")

Hey, lets have a war!

Great! Now, lets all brainstorm and think outside the box and come up with a reason to have it, keep in mind we can get away with murder if we blame it on 911 perps! Yeah, baby, lets gor forrit!

WASHINGTON -- Lawyers for Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide are suggesting they may delve deeply at his criminal trial into infighting among the White House, the CIA and the State Department over pre-Iraq war intelligence failures.

New legal documents raise the potential that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's trial could turn into a political embarrassment for the Bush administration by focusing on whether the White House manipulated intelligence to justify the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

In a court filing late Friday night, Libby's legal team said that in June and July 2003, the status of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame was at most a peripheral issue to "the finger-pointing that went on within the executive branch about who was to blame" for the failure to find weapons of mass destruction.
