So Chris Matthews thinks we should invade Iran to boost Bush's rating

On Hardball, Matthews, Milbank, and Buchanan discussed "rallying effect" of attack on Iran

Summary: On Hardball, Chris Matthews, Dana Milbank, and Pat Buchanan discussed what they agreed were the likely political benefits to President Bush and congressional Republicans if he were to launch a pre-emptive war against Iran.

On the March 15 edition (7:00 p.m. ET hour) of MSNBC's Hardball, host Chris Matthews, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank, and MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan discussed what they agreed were the likely political benefits to President Bush and congressional Republicans in November 2006 if Bush were to launch a pre-emptive war against Iran. Buchanan posited: "I don't think he's going to do it for political reasons, but if he did do it for political reasons, you'd do it in October," because "you'd get right up the polls ... you'd win the election." Matthews, who confessed to being "staggered by the possible truth" in Buchanan's comments, invited Milbank to comment. Milbank noted that "here is undoubtedly a rallying effect," but, according to Milbank, the question regarding a possible war against Iran launched partially -- or purely -- for political gain is: "Exactly when do you do the action, and exactly how long do you stay up at the top of the heap her

I know this was all chit-chat, but who wants to wager a bet with me that we'll finally invade Iran sometime mid-October?

4. Why don't we just send Chris, by himself, to invade Iran
If he thinks its such a good idea, why doesn't he do it himself?

5. Do they ever talk about the concequences
In terms of loss of life and suffering?
To our economy?
To our military?
To our diplomatic standing?
To our souls?

Or is it just about the partisan political fallout in the nearest election that enters in the calculation?

8. interesting... but ugh.
Interesting that they are being so blatant to talk about this as a POLITICAL option - folks in these mainstreammedia talking head shows didn't talk about that with Iraq - rather plants the seeds of wagging the dog thoughts into viewers minds - months in advance. Odd, I don't think this is there intention - but by planting such cynicism per motives, per timing - they are making it more likely that if bushco were so foolish as to do this -that it would have the opposite effect - as the public, being jointly skeptical/cynical. That, I find interesting. Esp given the cheerleading role Matthews has played for bushco for much of the bushco years.

11. Bush said he still has political capital
Buchanan is a fascist bastard, but these past few years has been telling the truth about Bush/BFEE. This can only mean one thing - the end is near.

I remember hearing the mantra "Wag the Dog" EVERY time Clinton employed the military for any purpose. The media are beneath contempt...and I agree that Matthews should be first in line.

13. Let Chris the cowardly crony capitalist go. Sure is easy spouting murder
for someone elses child when a prick like Matthews has never seen a day of war.

*My apologies for the derogatory term - its the only word which adequately describes Chris Matthews in my opinion.

16. John Murtha sez....."How?" "we ain't no troops nor the money
nor the help from other Nations...so HOW? HOW we gonna pull this off????"

Iran is all talk...and if we did do it,,,cause we all know Bush don't listen to REASON...he listens to voices in his head...a sign of a MADMAN...History is replete with those guys...as we all know..and look at what happened to all those leaders who have voices in their noggin?...nothing positive...dats for sure...

we would be committing an act of for which the consequences can be very very counter productive....to us, the USA.

BTW, its been counter ever since BushCo took office...

19. Iraq barely had an army because of the Sanctions but Iran does
Iran has not suffered under a decade of UN Sanctions where their army was dismantled and weapons destroyed. Mind you, the insurgency is strong because of how much Iraq hates being occupied.
