I share a building with a group of Ethiopian Muslims. Through our six years together (my half a Business, their half a Mosque) I have gotten to know many of them on a personal level. These are wonderful people. I love them.
They meet to pray in back five times a day. On Sunday they gather to pray and have the equivalent of sunday school.
I attend a church of similar numbers, about 25 people, who I also love dearly. Though the church is southern baptist it is in Portland OR and nondogmatic and in many ways liberal. It is a free place to love your neighbor so to speak.
After church we meet at my cafe for fellowship and coffee. Today I asked for help cleaning up the flower beds which were a huge mess. Half of my church got their hands dirty and cleaned for a couple hours. It was so heartening. As we continued the muslims broke off their prayer time and came out to join us and together we cleaned up.
I'm here to tell you that Muslims and Christians in their heart are the same. We can get along and work together.
