Just so you know...the new tactic
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 08:55 PM by Ksec
The upcoming mid term elections will be featuring a new tactic by the Repukes. They are going to paint Democrats as extremists and make the population despise us. They will make this election about nothing theyve done. It will be one big giant hate fest aimed our way. Get ready because its about to begin. The reicht wing will be in full hate mode.

I know, I know. Its nothing new, but the level of vitriol will be notched up to all time highs. They have no other choice since their time in the sun has been a complete failure.

8. The way to win the 2006 elections
The way to win in 2006 is to not allow the Republican spin machine to frame the debate. By now, we know well their tools of framing: hate and fear.

We must have a two prong approach. First we must point out all the things that have happened during the Republican majority. List all the Republican promises that have been broken. Remind people of all the Republican lies. Ask them if they are truly safer and better off under Bush.

Then we must offer hope. We must state categorically that when we win, the process of legislation will be open; no closed door secret meetings with special interests, no bills presented that were written by lobbyists for their clients. We must state that we will represent the people and will listen to the people and their wishes. We must be bold and frankly state the problems facing us: and energy crisis and global warming, and what we propose to do about them. I would suggest an all-out research/development effort to create new technologies that will allow us to maintain our planet and give us bountiful amounts of energy for years to come. We must show true compassion-take away the tax cuts from the richest of the rich and reinstate programs for the poor. Reagan gave the public the myth of the "welfare queen"-we can give facts of hard working people who have been struck down by war, accident, or illness who have had their very oxygen taken away because of Medicaid cuts. We must appeal to the true part of religion by asking what the Bible, the Torah, the Dhammapada, the Gita, and the Qur'an say about helping others-and stress that our programs will be known by their good works.

There are many changes coming. We can be a force for these changes if we present candidates who are willing to frame a platform that will allow us to survive into the future.

10. Good... Please, hear me out.
I was a very repuke leaning person for many years. I never was much of a voter though. Didn't pay much attention. I was like most who might vote because of "perception" not facts.
Then I went to work for two ultra righty(they cursed FDR the way we curse Bush) bigots who, sensing a convert, were constantly on me. There was also the non stop kool aid radio... After about 2yrs of this I suddenly got tired of the constant vitriol, logic failures, and hatred that seemed to be all around me. SO I started "looking into it for myself" and omg. You wouldn't believe the kind of 360 degree turn around I pulled. I was quite uncaring before that. I believe that if the right wing attack machine comes out from under the coat of the party faithful it will backfire in a magnificent way. People are mostly caring and somewhat intelligent. If they get their noses rubbed in the hatred and ignorance of the radical reich in the obvious way you speak of, they will turn into the neo con, bush crime fundy's worst nightmare.

I did.

22. I suspect you meant a 180 degree turn
;)

But there are a bunch of fence sitting republicans that will make a complete 360 degree turn without knowing they were manipulated. They know their party is in trouble and many are making that 180 degree turn, but the propaganda machine can turn them around again by relentless attacks against the Democrats. They have grown to distrust the republican party, but they will be brainwashed to distrust the Democratic party more. These people may be mostly caring and somewhat intelligent, but nevertheless, they are easily manipulated. Think Swiftboat.

11. No more wars is extreme?
If the Dems can ever get anti-war I think they will have a winning message because this poplulace is weary. Weary of Iraq and they sure as hell don't want Iran. I think they are weary of Bush, and personally are looking for someone to stand up and call him out. Before, during and after Katrina, this admin showed just how much they care for America. The people have lost whatever the hell spell it was-FEAR-that they had been under since 9/11. I worry about a terrorist attack-even though the other side loves to say we haven't been attacked since 9/11 due to the great bunnypants leadership.

we are already painted as extremists and are hated. That is what extremists do, paint the opposition as extremist, especially this particular rightwing Orwellian movement.

15. So maybe we should come out slinging too.
Instead of talking issues, just point out in every way what a looney bunch of criminal sociopaths they are and say it over and over like they do until it sinks in.

16. Watch for them to play the treason card
It has just started showing up here in Milwaukee. There were two letters in the paper today basically calling Russ Feingold a traitor for the censure motion, one suggesting he should be recalled. (At least as many pro as con, though--that's good.)

Also, there's a referendum coming up in one of the conservative suburbs on bringing the troops home. A letter to the neighborhood newspaper condemned those who signed the petition to put it on the ballot, over 1000 people, as traitors. The guy must have used the words treason and traitor at least half a dozen times. But the next week there were eight letters attacking him for being over the top and disregarding our right to dissent. Only one rather vague letter put forth the idea that we must all obey our Commander in Chief in time of war (no--the president is commander in chief of the military, not the rest of us).

Anybody else seeing this trend?

20. Not really
Can't help which letters the paper decides to print--it probably isn't representative of the city. We used to have two papers, one conservative (morning), and one liberal (afternoon) that was worth reading, but since merger some years ago the remaining paper leans right.

And the village that is having the referendum went Democratic for president in 2004 for the first time since somewhere in the nineteenth century. So there is hope!

19. Another tactic I noticed yesterday and today
Both in papers/online news and on the hate radio: 'Less than expected' or 'Fewer' anti-war protesters, thus no 'real' outrage about the war. The wing nut I heard briefly today while driving in the car said "300,000 people showed up to protest for illegal immigrants in Chicago...and only 200 showed up today to protest the war, blah, blah, blah..."
