Talk around town turned to the Kia plant that is due to be built a couple counties away in the next few years, when a probable freeper said "I guess outsourcing is a good idea after all." I said "What do you mean?" He said "If it weren't for Korea outsourcing the jobs, this area wouldn't have 5,000 new jobs in a few years."
It was obvious he did not know what he was talking about. I informed him the difference, that the US loses jobs when companies outsource to China, India, etc. That Kia is expanding and no one in Korea is losing their jobs so 5,000 Americans can be hired here. So outsourcing is not a zero sum game. Also, the new jobs here will not be union jobs, so these workers might make a living wage, but nothing on par with the wages and benefits in Detroit. So it won't help the tax base as much as it could.
I am simply amazed at the level of misinformation people on the right have when it comes to economics.
