Scientology and Viacom??
Snark Attack!

Is the Church of Scientology now part of the Viacom corporate family? The Tom Cruise-obsessed television shows "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" ignored reports of Cruise warning Viacom subsidiary Paramount that he wouldn't hype "Mission: Impossible 3" unless Viacom subsidiary Comedy Central pulled the scheduled rerun of a Scientology-satirizing "South Park" episode. It did. And now it looks like "E.T." and "The Insider," Viacom productions, don't want to upset Tom, either.

1. So, where can we download a copy of South Park's $cientology episode?
Preferably a copy free of commercial interruptions or digital rights management.

8. So, here's an idea of what we can do...
1) Find all the blogs that mention the South Park Scientology controversy.
2) Visit all those blogs and post links to all the places where the episode can be viewed or downloaded for free.
3) Write to South Park's producers and ask them to voluntarily relinquish their copyright and place the episode under a Creative Commons license.

29. Don't think they'd ever do it
The controversy is good publicity, and if they release that episode on DVD it'll be a huge selling point.

32. But think how much it would piss-off the $cientologists (and Tom Crui$e)
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 05:20 PM by IanDB1
If they said, "We don't care about the money. We just want everyone to see how stupid Scientology is and how gay Tom Cruise is. So, we're giving up our copyright and putting the episode in the public domain where anyone can get it for free."

Plus, there would be no way for them to issue a restraining order or force Viacom or South Park to stop distributing the episode-- they technically wouldn't own or control it anymore.

Now THAT would generate publicity.

STEAL THIS EPISODE!

2. Tom Cruise...
...is a control freak nut-job.

Seriously, Cruise needs to grow up.
He ain't 'all that' even though he thinks he is the center of the Universe.

5. Why the hell would anyone characterize them as 'left wing'?
What is left wing about them? They're unabashedly facist and authoritarian.

They might be the 'new age version' of the Christian Right, but they're not left wing.

7. Agreed. Nothing 'left wing' about them whatsoever...
...I read the Rolling Stone article someone linked in another thread and it confirmed and re-inforced my view of scientology and its followers as absolute bullshit..

13. That's funny - all the scientologists I know are Democrats
Judging all scientologists by the actions of Tom Cruise is laughable. Like judging all christians by the actions of Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell.

23. They have been deluging my son with their mail for
many years now. And they routinely protest at education conventions I attend. So I do know quite a bit about them other than what Tom Cruise has said or done.

And yep, they are a cult and they are NUTS.

9. I meant that it has become very paranoid...
of the establishment's power. I do not know exactly where to place them on the political scale.
But the facts are that Scientology is a satanic cult. They are extremly paranoid and authoritarian.
There seems to be a rejection of society by them.

10. Because they are completely out of their trees...
...ANY 'religion' that requires the huge sums of money that this cult does in order to be cleansed should automatically send up red-flags...

It's a complete and total fraud...

and it has sadly become a cult. Everytime a publication does an expose, it's get assaulted by these fuckers. Screw Tom Cruise and screw Hayes and the others. Fuck 'em all.

I can appreciate various forms of faith and meditation, but they are truly twisted. I have absolutely no respect for them.

I wish people would boycott MI3 (not because it will likely suck either).

19. Republican Mark Robbins would disagree that Scientology is "left wing"
“As American society becomes more diverse in the years ahead, we will be looking for leadership from those organizations that represent the moral tenets which united us as a country: personal responsibility, compassion, tolerance, respect and a commitment to community. The Church of Scientology is one of those organizations-as its commitment to the Hollywood community so clearly demonstrates.” - Mark A. Robbins, Republican

22. Republican Sharron Anglewould disagree that Scientology is "left wing"
"Hoping to win support for an alternative drug treatment program developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, a Nevada legislator wants her colleagues to join her on a trip to a Mexico prison to examine the program.

Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, R-Reno, has proposed legislation to establish the Second Chance Program in Nevada for the state's female prison population. The program relies on detoxification and self-betterment principles developed by Hubbard."

14. My husband has a good friend...
...who dated a woman who was immersed completely into Scientology, and he has said that during your "audit", you are supposed to reveal your innermost secrets to the higher-ups. Well, he knows from personal experience (what he witnessed his now-ex-girlfriend going through) that if the higher-ups want to keep you under control, they blackmail you into doing what they want. They apparently have a lot of dirt on a LOT of people, and I'll bet Tom's higher-ups threatened to expose his dirty secrets unless he did what they told him to do.

Tom's doing their bidding because of this, and I'm sure Isaac Hayes is too.

Sorry, but Scientology is way too freaky for me (and most people). :wow:
