DeWine joins Dems on health amendments
Ohio Sen. Mike DeWine broke ranks seven times with his fellow Republicans on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, voting for Democratic amendments to a bill on small-business health insurance.

The other 10 Republicans on the committee opposed the amendments, which failed on 10-10 votes. DeWine voted against 10 other amendments that failed 11-9, on party lines.

The seven Democratic amendments DeWine voted for were on issues affecting women's health, infant health, clinical trials, autism and disease prevention. They were offered by Sens. Tom Harkin (Iowa), Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), Patty Murray (Wash.) and Chris Dodd (Conn.).....

However, a Democratic Senate aide said Ohio chapters of national healthcare advocacy groups pressured DeWine, who faces a tough election race against Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). DeWine's office did not return calls.

1. Of course he is. He's on the ropes and...
...Rs do best when they pretend to be Ds. Sherrod has spent the past decade doing everything short of lighting his hair on fire trying to address the inadequacy of health care especially for the elderly and poor. He's gone so far as to rent busses to drive people to Canada to get their RXs filled. What the hell has DeWine ever done except suck corporate dick?

5. Seen the light?
I think it's more that Sen. DeWine has seen the latest polls and knows his days in Washington are numbered
unless Diebold and Blackwell can sufficiently alter the outcome (not inconceivable, unfortunately).

6. Welcome to DU!
Glad your here!

I'm sure that DeWine has seen the writing on the wall. Of course, with Blackwell and Diebold, plus the Dems habit of being super shitty campaigners (as the Hackett + Brown primary brewhaha showed me) will make it super hard for the dems to win.

Again, welcome to DU. I'm glad that you have found this place. Peace and low stress!

4. Dewine voted that way because he knew it didn't matter, repugs
run Ohio just like the country. He knew he could "safely" vote for this without fear of it ever going thru. He's just pandering.
