You've heard the reports of the new Diebold touch-screen voting machines which have recently been updated to include a so-called "voter-verified paper trail." You may have also heard that they produce virtually unreadable, and almost entirely uncountable "paper trails." In Ohio in 2005, several of those toilet-paper audit rolls on the busiest machines turned up completely blank at the end of Election Day.
If you've really been paying close attention, you may even have heard that these machines failed 33% of the time in a massive election test held last Summer in California due to screen-freezes, software failures and yes... printer jams!
Now, for the first time ever, an Elections Director in Emery County, UT has allowed independent computer security experts to actually study the very touch-screen voting machines being deployed around our country this year for use in the up-coming 2006 Elections.
