Little Lord Pissypants and the Very Scary New Backdrop ---pix--->>>

You talking to ME, peasant?

US President George W. Bush grimaces while listening to an audience member's question after an address to the City Club of Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio. With the Iraq conflict entering its fourth year, Bush took aim at critics who say his upbeat forecasts for that country are out of touch with the bloody reality(AFP/Mandel Ngan)

And here he is arriving in Cleveland - it looks grim everywhere he goes >

1. Geez, talk about a dark overlord.
Why don't we just cut to the chase and dress him up like darth vader? You know, play the imperial death march when he walks into places.

17. They are using everything NASA knows about how to
calm people, about what makes them feel good -- distance, water, the color blue.

Add in the power of familiar landscapes and the flag (the signal to "stop thinking") and BOOM -- you have a calmed audience awash with warm, affectionate emotions.

The audience has to FIGHT to resist that background.

:grr:

maybe the presence water means that blue will be present, so maybe NASA's observation is just an accident - :hi:

25. Except it doesn't calm me
I have to fight not be creeped out by it. That may be what they were thinking, but it's all wrong. The water surrounding the city makes people think of New Orleans after Katrina, the all-powerful American flag hiding in the background makes you think of the NSA always watching, the glow looks unnatural, & the blue color makes the city look dead. I hate that backdrop.

What was the point of that backdrop? No slogans, no nothing. It actually reminded me of New Orleans somehow.

31. Creepy for sure
The thing actually made me feel afraid for a second. Isn't that nuts? I've never seen a Bush backdrop before w/o a "slogan". It'll usually say "Protecting Our Freedom" or "Victory In Iraq" or whatever simple message they want Americans to get from the speech. But there's no slogan here, which makes me think the backdrop is the message. And what it says, in many subliminal ways, is "be afraid". I don't think it's a coincidence so many of us are reminded of Katrina, or nukes. They're twisting our fears like they always do. Maybe they're just getting more sneaky about it.
