I heard that today someone asked * if he thinks we're in the End Times.
Can someone verify this for me? A friend of mine in Cleveland attended the speech today and said one of the audience members asked * if he believes current events in the Middle East are what was detailed in Revelations...and * didn't give a simple yes/no answer.

I'd love to see the actual text of this exchange. My friend said that the question was definitely phrased in such a way as to put * on the spot.

he and his goons have whipped up the fundies using these beliefs so a simple no would turn his few red state supporters against him.

8. That's funny if true. I doubt that * knows much about the prophesies
in Revelation. That kind of stuff probably isn't on his reading list, unless someone has been slipping him "Left Behind" books. (Not that it is on mine either but I was spoon fed apocolyptic literature as a child.)

10. He knows all about it
He pretended at first not to have any idea what the questioner was asking. His answer was his usual Iraq speech, then he mumbled something about going on and on because he didn't want to answer it. Believe me, he is VERY much into this fundamentalist End Times/Revelations view of Christianity and very much thinks he is directing a religious war for Christ. Remember he did say God had spoken to him.

This is the scariest thing about him and why he has to be stopped. If you think you are doing this for Christ, then if it is the end of the world, that is fine.

12. Maybe not
I suspect that Bush isn't all that keen on the "end time" stuff. First he was raised a Episcopalian. Currently he is a United Methodist. They are of course believe in the "end Times" but dont often get into the prophecy stuff like many evanglicals do.

13. You're right, but...
Methodists don't often think they are speaking with God and being directed to remake the Middle East by invading another country. This is definetely the type of stuff he has said before. I don't think he is truly religious at all, actually; I think he uses religion for his own evil purposes and as a justification for doing exactly what he wants. If God is telling you what to do you think you have the right to do anything.

41. Didn't he quit the Methodists before the war?
IIRC the United Methodist Church came down against the war in Iraq.

Bush retaliated by withdrawing from the UMC.

His current spiritual advisors are all top-shelf endtimers and include Timothy LaHaye.

I think Bush believes that he is bringing about Armageddon and the Rapture--he's aligning himself with people who know what it's supposed to look like when it happens.

Now, the only REAL problem with all this is that Bush is one of the forces of darkness, specifically the Horseman of Famine. In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the Horseman of Famine said "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not hurt the oil or the wine." In the run-up to the Iraq War, Bush told the Iraqis "do not damage the oil wells or production facilities." And as the Horseman of Famine, he's doing a damn fine job.

28. Well the Mayans didn't say
what came next.

Actually I am all for the Apocalypse. The root word of it isn't about the end of the world...it means uncovering, the revealing of what was hidden, being unveiled.

Of course truth being revealed is the end of the world as they know it.

30. The Mayans don't say it's the end of the world. They say that
the 7 time lords (who created the first Mayan Calendar) will return around December 21, 2012, and there'll be a big party on earth, and all creation is invited. So says one translated urn, anyhoo. So don't despair. What the caterpillar calls the end, the master calls the butterfly....

33. not "THE END" but the end of the period we are in currently
I believe this is the material era and the next is ether, but I may be wrong. Lost a lot of data and links on Mayan lore when the old computer went belly up. SpiralHawk could probably come up with some great links on the subject, and Dover probably could too.

Recall being amused about an ether era... that modem next to the compter... doesn't it have something called an 'ether-net card'? That's why the phrase stuck in my mind. It was sorta funny and interesting.

An end to this 'material' realm does sound sorta disruptive, but frankly, I am about ready to push on to a different existence, it has never seemed compatable with authentic human needs and design. I do recommend people learn how to grow food and preserve it the old fashioned ways.

I even have a fundie friend that used to litter with a vengeance. I shamed her into cutting back and she finally stopped when her kids got old enough to notice it.

It's kind of fascinating the mindset about things like that. It just seems so strange to me that the right-wing xtian folks just don't seem to give a damn about the environment. Why is it evil to them to care about the environment? Is it really the rapture stuff?

18. Lou Dobbs spoke about this on his show
I just came home in the middle of his interview of a gentleman who wrote a book about the influence of fundamentalism on American politics (didn't catch his name). Dobbs mentioned that Bush could have given a simple 'yes' or 'no' answer to the question, but that he wouldn't. Dobbs suggested that Bush rambled on for about five minutes without really answering the question and dodged it in the end because to answer 'yes' would make him seem like an absolute idiot to the left and to answer 'no' would make him a traitor to his base.

36. The fact that a man with a finger on the nuclear button would not say 'no'
emphatically, categorically, and immediately then move on, instead of hesitating and speaking all around the subject is worrying to me. Does anyone else feel concern for this? Whether Bush believes this stuff or just worries about alienating his base, what must other countries, including ones with nuclear weapons think about a man who will not entirely reject such notions?

He didn't even try to answer the woman's question. The answer he gave had absolutely nothing to do with it - it was just his standard 9/11-terra-terra-terra-9/11-make-a-lame-joke all-purpose response. I don't think he even listens to questions, because he's going to give the same answer no matter what the question is.

And his audience still applauded him. Jesus wept.
