!?!?!? SBC volunteers refuse to hand out H2O in beer cans in Katrina!?!?
(this is old, but I don't remember seeing it before)

CLEWISTON — Hurricane victims who wanted water had some difficulty finding it at a relief station in Clewiston Friday. The volunteer group running a supply center doesn't like the company that donated the water, so they decided not to give it to those in line for help.

Twenty-two pallets of the canned water, distributed free by beer company Anheuser-Busch, bears the company's label – and members of the Southern Baptist Convention refused to hand it out to those in need.

Residents lined up for miles to receive food and water at the distribution point. But the water was left on the sidelines by the Alabama-based group.
...

The water has been available all along, but the SBC volunteers set it aside and few people knew it was available.

While the SBC is standing its ground, the Red Cross says water is water and they're now handing out the supplies.

1. How to magnify a calamity into a catastrophe ...
... or vice versa.

I guess "Jesus Saves" now has a new meaning.

2. Christians?
CHRISTIANS?????

They will be so shocked when they reach Hell, and Satan refuses to hand them a can of water.

5. Southern Baptists.
We're talking about people who are so anti-alcohol that they use Welch's instead of wine in their communion. They're just worried about what people will say if they hand out anything that is connected to a company that produces an alcoholic beverage. So the needs of the people they're trying to help are trumped by what some people might say. Yep, that's the SBC I know and love.:eyes:

6. Thanks for digging this up.
I knew I had heard a couple million individual cans of water were dumped a month or two after the beginning of the disaster because, it was reported then, the water was left over, unneeded, and nobody wanted it or wanted to cart it around - cost more than it was worth, they said.
I thought two million cans was a bit suspect, but twenty two pallets is certainly bad enough.

This story should be researched for veracity and then trumpeted far and wide. This is the kind of idiocy Booosh chooses to team up with. It and they should be held up to public scorn and ridicule! Painful as it is, they need to be laughed out of office and become the dumb Irishman joke of the next hundred years. We don't even need to worry about political correctness: the sheer stupidity of this gang that can't shoot straight is so palpable.

Side figger: Wonder how much is on a pallet? 24 cases of 24 cans, maybe? Over a thousand gallons of clear, sanitary, life sustaining water. My numbers may be a little off and I am short one toe, but, even if it were an order of magnitude off, it's still criminal.
It's three AM and my wetware is a little dodgy on quick estimates.

7. How Christ-like of them.
WWJD? He'd hand out the F***ING WATER, that's what He'd do! It's self-righteous, holier-than-thou a'holes like these that give all Christians a bad name.

8. And so all the money was given to the churches
to distribute...who sat in judgement on who was to receive what...and to find that they wouldn't give water to a thirsty person.
I say fuck giving churches any federal money.
This is the prime example of why not to.

9. I saw many of those cans.....
laying around in several neighborhoods while I toured the New Orleans area earlier this month. Along with the empty MRE packages they were the most common detritus of Katrina's aftermath.....beside the ruined houses and cars, that is. I actually saw people picking them up for souvenirs. :eyes: It looks as if they got distributed in New Orleans but I have no doubt that these christian "do-gooders" in other parts of the Gulf States wouldn't hand them out. After all, water in a beer can may be a "gateway" beverage to evil alcohol. One can't be too careful! :sarcasm:

You really had to look hard to find the "Anheuser-Busch" writing on the cans. In big letters it said, "purified drinking water". Anyone looking further than that when you're dying of thirst is a total asshole.

14. So they weren't "beer cans" but aluminum cans of water shaped like beer?
If that's the case, then anyone participating in denying the distribution should be fined heavily, maybe sued by the refugees.

10. Seems these xians haven't spent enough time actually reading the bible
Then they would know Jesus has no problem with alcohol. If he did then why would his first miracle be to turn water into wine? If Jesus was against alcohol, wouldn't it have been the other way around?

canned water! :puke:

Many people refused to drink it, including myself. The main complaint was: it tasted like drinking liquid aluminum. One person I know claims to have gotten sick from drinking just one can. :puke:
