4. Another little tidbit I have learned due to the fact I am at risk
If and when you feel you are having a heart attack take an aspirin, if you do that you have a very good chance of not having any brain damage and of surviving the attack.

3. Never heard that before.
Coughing -- who'd a thunk it? There's a lot of people with heart trouble in my family and I'm on blood pressure medicine. Thanks for the info!

5. Please Madokie, take this down before somebody believes it.

But for someone having a heart attack that does not result in cardiac arrest, coughing can be extremely dangerous. And since most people are not able to tell the difference, coughing during a heart attack is almost always a bad idea, according to the American Heart Association.

A study published in 1998 did find that the technique could be useful for people who suffer from a rare condition known as Stokes-Adams syndrome, which causes heart arrhythmias and frequent fainting. But in typical cases, doctors recommend a tried-and-true technique: call for help and pop an aspirin — quickly.

THE BOTTOM LINE Coughing during a heart attack can be dangerous.

By posting that email in this way it looks as though you personally had the heart attack and are quoting what your doctor told you, thus you are giving a bogus rumour a stamp of authenticity. This misinformation could do harm to people, and should not be repeated.
